I was super excited for Inara George's follow-up to All Rise. Then I heard it. Not my thing at all.
Sweeping, melodramatic strings. Sounds like showtunes. I was hugely let down.
And then I read the sweet tale of why it came together -- Lowell George (Inara's Papa) being close friends with Van Dyke Parks and this collaboration being almost inevitable.
And, also hearing that VDP is touring with Inara -- after not touring for years and years -- is also likely a huge plus for any fans.
So yay for you, waaah for me.

i know of Van Dyke Parks through Joanna Newsom. if you all haven't already, i highly recommend you check out her album Ys (pronounced eeez, the one he produced).
