This song is truly a classic. It's a song that really gives you a feel of what it was probably like being a (then) 35 year old 4th grade school teacher, with different ambitions (like rocking out). I know Mr. Pollard was heavily criticized for leaving teaching for this more "unsteady" career. People in Dayton, Ohio just are not supposed to do that kind of thing. I also like how the video shows what life in Dayon must be like (hanging around outside, drinking beer)
I am a scientist - I seek to understand me All of my impurities and evils yet unknown I am a journalist - I write to you to show you I am an incurable And nothing else behaves like me
And I know whats right But Im losing sight Of the clues for which I search and choose To abuse To just unlock my mind Yeah, and just unlock my mind
I am a pharmacist Prescriptions I will fill you Potions, pills and medicines To ease your painful lives I am a lost soul I shoot myself with rock & roll The hole I dig is bottomless But nothing else can set me free
And I know whats right But Im losing sight Of the clues for which I search and choose To abuse To just unlock my mind Yeah, and just unlock my mind
I am a scientist - I seek to understand me I am an incurable and nothing else behaves like me
Everything is right Everything works out right Everything fades from sight Because thats alright with me - Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices)

HAHA!!! Busted...
Seriously. I've been listening to GBV ever since I saw that a few hours ago (instead of looking at nekkid girls).
My Trusted MOGs
funny, i read the article and watched the video of gbv on suicide girls just minutes before you made your post. gbv is rad. i can't believe how young pollard looks in that video. he probably wasn't even that young.
My Trusted MOGs
Yeah he does look much younger. He was really thin! I'm assuming the video is about 12 years old which would put him at about 37. I'm assuming the rock n' roll lifestyle (he hadn't really toured much at all back in these days) has added a few years to his appearance. That was a band that really lived it up live.
