This song is truly a classic. It's a song that really gives you a feel of what it was probably like being a (then) 35 year old 4th grade school teacher, with different ambitions (like rocking out). I know Mr. Pollard was heavily criticized for leaving teaching for this more "unsteady" career. People in Dayton, Ohio just are not supposed to do that kind of thing. I also like how the video shows what life in Dayon must be like (hanging around outside, drinking beer)I am a scientist - I seek to understand meAll of my impurities and evils yet unknownI am a journalist - I write to you to show youI am an incurableAnd nothing else behaves like meAnd I know whats rightBut Im losing sightOf the clues for which I search and chooseTo abuseTo just unlock my mindYeah, and just unlock my mindI am a pharmacistPrescriptions I will fill youPotions, pills and medicinesTo ease your painful livesI am a lost soulI shoot myself with rock & rollThe hole I dig is bottomlessBut nothing else can set me freeAnd I know whats rightBut Im losing sightOf the clues for which I search and chooseTo abuseTo just unlock my mindYeah, and just unlock my mindI am a scientist - I seek to understand meI am an incurable and nothing else behaves like meEverything is rightEverything works out rightEverything fades from sightBecause thats alright with me - Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices)
