I love being introduced to new music, especially in genres I’m not that well versed in.

I can’t view youtube videos at work, but I’m a huge Nine Inch Nails fan so I can at least comment on the attached song. I’m not sure I would call “Every Day Is Exactly the Same” as revolutionary for NIN. Though a majority of music by NIN is aggressive and industrial, there are usually softer tracks thrown into the mix to help break things up. In fact, there was a limited edition album that contained nothing but stripped down, almost acoustic songs.

You can sample it here:

ok im glad you follow them, and i do remember them having some softer slower songs even before this album like closer wasnt that one? as i understand when this album came out was like when he cut all his hair off and around this same time is when he produced a david bowie album and wasnt he at this time growing and expanding as an artist?

I think I misunderstood your post. Though “Every Day Is Exactly the Same” specifically isn’t all that revolutionary, the album does represent a huge turning point in Nine Inch Nail’s history.

With Teeth was the first album Trent released since The Fragile six years earlier. In the time between he had sobered up, shaved his head, and hit the gym. He said in an interview that despite the album's continued theme of loss and anger, he's actually in a much happier place in his life.

With the release of Year Zero, it was obvious that Trent was looking to shake things up in the music business. He leaked singles and created a viral alternate reality game to promote the release. Disputes over album pricing and the practice of suing fans over sharing caused Trent to cut ties with his label, becoming an independent artist. This allowed for more freedom and resulted in numerous innovations such as providing ‘multi-tracks’ for free to allow fans to download and remix his songs then upload the result for others to download free and releasing Ghosts under the creative commons license.
