Hi, new here :) I'm always interested in finding out about new music and new bands I might like, so I thought I'd see what MOG had to offer. As you may have noticed, I'm a big Rush fan, and Pink Floyd is a very close 2nd. I have a great love for guitar, but I really can't stand players who play fast just for the sake of showing they can play fast. What I really love is the kind of deep, emotional playing that just shakes your soul - stuff that can bring you to the point of tears or put an ear-to-ear grin on your face.

Hello, and welcome to the MOG. Its a great site populated by some very amazing folks. Music is our bond.
I agree with your comments about various approaches to guitar playing. Some clowns just don't know what to leave out. Others are just engaging in public masterb.....well, you get the idea. The best are subtle, they make it seem easy. Bill Kirchen fr'instance, can leave most gunslingers in the dust. Ry Cooder can make a lot of guitar gods look silly. Eddie Hazel wrote the funk/jam/band book! Do you know how many who read this comment will have to google one or more of these names? (the answer is 27. We were looking for 27.).
Anyway, welcome to the MOG again. It is what we make it, more or less, and its pretty friggin' cool.
Thanks for the welcome, and the suggestions - I'm used to work at a college radio station where we played a lot of Ry Cooder and yeah, he's great :) The other names are familiar, but I'll have to give them a listen.
Welcome to MOG, and may I join the mini-mob in appreciation for the well-crafted melodic solo. The weedle-weedle boys drive me nuts too.
