Reviews of Sky Blue Sky

Posted about 5 years ago
I think Puffmagic already reported on the rather piss poor review that Pitchfork gave the new Wilco album but if you want to see an overview of what other places are saying you can check out "Metacritic":http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/wilco/skybluesky. I think the inclusion of Nels Cline has been a wonderous addition for Wilco live and I love what his presence adds on the album. I think Tweedy has finally got the band he has been trying to put together for years with Koche, Cline, and Stirratt. Although I don't really pay that much heed to reviews I felt kicked in the gut when Entertainment Weekly called it the best Eagles album the Eagles never made. I have not a small dislike of the Eagles. I was watching The Last Waltz a bit ago and I seemed to find more of a connection between Wilco and The Band. Go out and buy Sky Blue Sky today.

  1. Rawkkiddoh says I was thinking the same thing in regards to Wilco being a lot more like the Band. As for the album, nothing but good vibes over here

  4. thill says i have been listening to these songs for over a month and there are some I love (Walken, Hate It Here, Impossible Germany) and there are some I just like. I just read the Guardian review by Jude Rogers and felt like I had been bitch slapped by the Noam Chomsky of music reviewers. I felt too stupid to continue listening to the album. Fuck...I couldn't identify a Captain Beefheart rip off for the life of me. after the ripping apart of each and every song the review ends with: "Imagine a lazy, if devilishly handsome and talented boyfriend, moping around the house, making excuses for his lameness, only to allow occasional flashes of his former loveliness to break through his listlessness. And then, when you're almost to the end of your tether, he only bloody goes and gives you the greatest kiss of your life. Wilco, you're maddening!" Most of the reviews seem to imply Tweedy and crew are just being derivative and tossing something out there. Although it is not genius it is decent derivative music because they are talented musicians. Bollocks I say. One review I read said something like they think they are weirder than they really are....WTF does that mean? It seems the cool thing to rip on Tweedy.

  5. magdalenus says Oh man. I hate to say it, but I really didn't like Kicking Television, either. I thought their arrangements were getting rather dull. Where's the freakout?
