Ivylander recently posted about a gift he bought for his wife this christmas, a Cab Calloway cd from the 1940's. Of course to most of us reading this I would bet that if you hear the name and don't know who it is you can be told that he was the guy who sang Minnie The Moocher in The Blues Brothers and you will know immediately. I have Cab Calloway's Kicking the Gong Around--it has already been mentioned that Calloway was a fan of the funky weed and sang a song or two devoted to the subject. It has also already been pointed out that Calloway sang fun songs--not fun novelty like songs but songs that are a hoot to listen to. I have attached one here and I bet it gets stuck in your head for the rest of the day and maybe you will find the need to go out and get yourself some Calloway and that isn't a bad thing.

  1. ivylander says Theresa, I'd love to hear this, but for some reason the audio has become detached from the post. (Either that, or my workplace is now blocking audio as well as video.) Can you reattach? Thanks. I'm so happy that I've gotten someone else on a Calloway jag....

  3. ivylander says Sure does - man, this is fun stuff! Reminds me of all those cartoons from the '50s with zoot-suited wolves....

  4. emscee says Cab Calloway sang "You Rascal You" in a Betty Boop cartoon, so maybe that's what you're thinking of (if you saw it on TV in the '50s...). It's so great to see artists such as Cab floating around MOG. This really is the most eclectic music community in cyberspace, isn't it?

  5. Mike the Knife says Hi-de-ho, thill. Always a treat to hear Cab strutting and singing and leading that amazing band.
