Well, my daughter is finishing off her first year of college at Tulane and we are driving down to get her and bring her home for her lovely summering in mid-Michigan.
In August we dropped her off but only spent about a late afternoon and evening sight-seeing, getting to know New Orleans. We wanted to listen to real jazz but went to Bourbon Street and were just auditorily assaulted with cover bands blaring out from the bars. We finally did find Cafe Beignet and Steamboat Willie and enjoyed some more traditional jazz while drinking hurricanes and mango daquiris.
Unfortunately we will be arriving there this upcoming Tuesday---TWO days AFTER the world famous New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival! This time we will have more time to explore the city. One of the attractions I want to be sure to hit this time is Preservation Hall.
Does anyone have suggestions for restaurants to eat at (preferably not ones with $12 bowls of red beans and rice), musical sites, and just interesting, fun things in general?
Here is the story of funk from Old Gregg from The Mighty Boosh:

I have got a faint breeze of what "The Mighty Boosh" is, but would still love to see it. I really wish I had some sort of line into more British TV, because it sounds just great. I love British Comedy.

Aw wow that's too bad you're going to miss the festival by a hair. I want to check out New Orleans sometime. ...especially after the mention of the mango daiquiris!
