I am new to the Cut Copy bandwagon, but I have a feeling that I will be getting very well acquainted with these retro wunderkinds in the next few weeks. Without a doubt, detractors will joke that the band's name is quite appropriate, as they certainly created a record that borrows a lot from the past. Those same snide commentators will be missing out on a hell of a show. Certainly owing a ton to Depeche Mode and New Order, the album reaches highs that even these new wave goliaths rarely reached. Far from revolutionary or even visionary, this record has a great time enhancing some of the best moments of the 80s into a product that is distinctly their own. Even as a fan of the 80s, I realize that they rarely got this good. Don't confuse the lack of innovation for a lack of talent. Shit, with the high gas prices, crappy economy, and god awful president have we even really come that far from the early 80s? TRC Minireview rating: 7.8
