help me

It's time to buy some new headphones. Look at this. Amazingly, these still work, but they sound like crap, although they weren't great to begin with. Anyways, normally I would buy a pair for a reasonable price (read: cheap) but since my (21st!) birthday is 2 weeks from today, if I ask for some good headphones, I might get them. So, fellow moggers, you music afficionadoes you, what do you recommend? I don't want earbuds anymore because I find them painful. I've been eyeballing a pair by Bose but they're 150 bucks and I don't know if there are any of comparable quality for less. So, any pointers, advice, recommendations, etc would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

  1. DJKidKobe says I know of the pair of Bose that you've had your eyes on. And I can safely say, that they are a great pair of head phones. While fitting comfortably around the ears, they also produce a vibrant sound, with plenty of bass and treble to keep your music sounding crisp and clear. Sony also has a great selection of headphones, but for the best sound quality for the money, the ones to go with are Bose.

  2. saltatory says i've been really happy with all of the sennheiser sets i've bought are these to be used with a portable player? if so i would recommend the PX200s if you're just going to use them at a desk the eH250s should be great.

  3. Known Human says I have a pair of Sony MDR-V600 's that I picked up for $100, they're on par with any headphones out there. They're designed to be used as studio monitors, and so they have a pretty good range.

  4. Jess Horrible says I love my Sony MDR-7506's! They're a little cheaper than the V6 but still have incredible sound quality... and they're RUGGED.

  5. lemontwist says Bose QuietComfort? Those are the most amazing headphones ever. Massively expensive, but worth every last penny. Bose QuietComfort headphones + iPod = musical orgasm (mugasm?)

  6. SWozniak says I got that Bose pair you're talking about in Greensboro ($149.99 at Best Buy, right?), and they're AWESOME. I got tired of the ear buds after many years of using them. I HIGHLY recommend the purchase. Your ears and well-being will thank you.

  9. Indiebass says I too, am on the great headphone quest of 2006. I've been using an old pair of Sennheisers, which have been GREAT but they have several years worth of use in them and they're looking a little raggedy around the edges. y'esh. Personally, I can't decide between the big earmuffs and the little buds; I know they make great ones of each, and it comes down to personal aesthetic, but... you know. Every time i find a pair i like, they're way priced out of my range (see Bang and Olafson). I'll be watching this space...
