Since Little Man Tate come from Sheffield in the UK, are still relatively young and that there are some similarities in the songs’ subjects, the band that these guys get compared to the most are Arctic Monkeys. This isn’t completely justified though. In my personal perception the longevity of the AM’s debut album has proved to be somewhat short. Ofcourse this might be because of the large pile of music that has been dumped upon me this past year, but to be honest, it might just as well be the quality of the music that’s the main reason for this. Other bands that operate in the same genre like Razorlight, Young Knives, Fratellis & Kooks have succeeded in becoming returning customers of my iTunes-playlist. The Arctics have not though.
Anyway, to make a (too) long story short; I have a feeling that Little Man Tate have delivered a debut that will be part of the latter category in the long run. LMT “pitch out swaggering, guitar-based tunes with echoes of Blur, the Stone Roses, the Dentists, the Jam and all the way back to vintage Face to Face-era Kinks. Little Man Tate are the latest in a long and proud line of U.K. power pop acts, with little of the post-punk revival spikiness of the Arctic Monkeys and a solid knack for singalong choruses.”
There you have it. I couldn’t have copy-pasted it any better I think.
