Just start crying now and get it out of the way

Here in central Illinois we've entered that transitional period between lovely, sunny fall days and freezing cold, blustery winter. Currently it is gray, raining and in the 40s. It pretty much makes me want to stick my head in a bucket and just have someone gently tap me on the shoulder when spring arrives. To while away the hours, my friend Mollie and I made playlists for our funerals. Some people get their wills in order or decide what will happen to their kids or pets - we make sure the right music is selected. But really, it's a load off my mind to know if I go tomorrow no one will be playing Wind Beneath My Wings. Here is my list (in no particular order - just put it on shuffle and let the tears flow):In This Heart, Sinead O'Connor When It's Cold I'd Like to Die, Moby Sleeping With the Lights On, Teitur Casimir Pulaski Day, Sufjan Stevens World Waits for You, Son Volt Wait, Sarah McLachlan Hard Way To Fall, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals Nightswimming, REM The Obvious Child, Paul Simon In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, Neutral Milk Hotel This Year, The Mountain Goats Float On, Modest Mouse Such Great Heights, Iron & Wine Perfect Day, Lou Reed Explain It To Me, Liz Phair Thank You, Led Zeppelin River, Joni Mitchell Amen, Jolie Holland Smile, The Jayhawks Fire and Rain, James Taylor Naked As We Came, Iron & Wine Next Exit, Interpol Fare Thee Well, Indigo Girls Do You Realize?, The Flaming Lips Get Me, Dinosaur Jr. We're Leaving, DeVotchKa Anchor, Devendra Banhart Sons And Daughters, The Decemberists Everything's Not Lost, Coldplay Lived in Bars, Cat Power Forever Young, Bob Dylan Breathe Me, Sia (a sentimental pick thanks to Six Feet Under)Sovay, Andrew Bird Heartbeats, Jose GonzalesLet it Be, The Beatles

  2. SatisfiedMind614 says Wow...what a great list to be whisked away to the afterlife with! Excellent selections ;-) I thought I was weird for picking out my funeral song(Jeff Buckley's version of Satisfied Mind)...but I guess I really should have an entire list, I don't want to bore anyone with one song repeating over and over again! And I like the idea of some more upbeat songs like 'Float On'...have you seen Love Actually? I love the funeral scene for Liam Neeson's wife...her memorial tune was Bye,Bye Baby by the Bay City Rollers...perfect!!

  3. thekilgore says You know - I realized as I was doing it that it can go a couple ways. You can put songs on there that you really love, which would make a good funeral mix, or you can go for the songs about death, loss, moving on, etc. which is what I did. I really want people going through the kleenex.

  4. kat3260 says I have often thought about doing this. Nice list. Tool's "Eulogy" has always seemed like an obvious choice for me, but then I started thinking about the lyrics, which don't seem appropriate AT ALL....maybe I could have someone do an orchestral version of it...
