Luther, why hast thou forsaken me?

Posted over 5 years ago
It's nights like this that I realize how much I will miss Luther Vandross. Sitting in the dark, listening to Superstar, every note he sings... there's this feeling I get, when I REALLY connect with a song, like the notes are being played inside of me. It's weird (I think it might be a heart condition from all the smoking), but Superstar does that to me every time. And it's a beautiful song. I'm a sucker for piano, and this song does have them in spades. The trippy sounds in the background (that tinkling at the end of the chorus, for example). I just cannot put into words how much this song makes me wish the damn donut sandwich didn't kill him.

  1. Spencer Owen says There are some slojam quiet storm joints that I cannot resist. I haven't yet found one by Luther. But I've only barely looked. Maybe I should explore deeper...

  4. etcvisitor says he also helped david bowie on the vocal arrangements for the album Young Americans. Luther is a pretty smart writer and arranger, its always been funny to stumble over his name in the most random liner notes.
