TV ads for the imminent release of the film version of "Sweeney Todd" starring Johnny Depp have brought to mind the Amazing Lea Delaria (Actor, Broadway Star, Stand-up Comic, Jazz Vocalist.) In 2001 Delaria released an album of jazzed-up versions of Broadway songs. Among them is Stephen Sondheim's "The Ballad Of Sweeney Todd." Here's your chance to hear the song the way nobody else does it. (It's even better than the disco version!) Lea sweetly slithers her way through the melody until ready to strike. She's backed by a tight trio of musicians: Arranger (with John McMahon) Larry Goldings on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass, Gregory Hutchinson on drums. Produced by Matt Pierson; Warner Brothers Records, 2001
