Metric in Scottsdale, Az

After performing in Tempe, Az nearly two years ago, Metric came back to the Phoenix valley. Scottsdale's Martini Ranch was the venue for their 2007 Az stop. This show was a little different from a typical concert, though.According to Metric's official forum, the band decided to try out some new songs on their west coast dates. Quoting Metric's MySpace page: "We decided to book some smaller shows...

Arctic Monkeys in Tempe, Arizona

Nathan and I went to see the Arctic Monkeys in Tempe's Marquee Theatre on Friday night. I had seen them just last week at Austin City Limits but wanted to see them headline a club show. While the set list was about the same, the band was much more active on stage. The burned through their songs at a grueling pace. The show ended at 10:30pm, just under 90 intense minutes. The band played all their...

Alice in Chains and Velvet Revolver in Phoenix, Az
over 4 years ago

Steve and I went to see Alice in Chains and Velvet Revolver at the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix this past Tuesday. Counting Austin City Limits, this was our sixth day in a row of live music. The venue didn't sell out (Smashing Pumpkins was also in town that night), so our lawn seats were upgraded to 300 level seating. We were happy to have seats, as we were running low on energy. As the opener, Alic

LCD Soundsystem at Austin City Limits

LCD Soundsystem played ACL's AT&T Blueroom stage on Day 1 of the festival. The entire band was very tight despite playing in the height of the day's 90+ heat.James amused the crowd between songs with his typical on-stage humor. He enjoyed performing on the ATT stage, rocking out with 'five bars' of reception. There was a strong crowd response to many songs from their setlist, including 'Daft Punk.

Arctic Monkeys at Austin City Limits

The Arctic Monkeys played ACL's AMD stage towards the end of day 2. The band was very tight and played through their best and most popular songs. However, the group was not as animate on stage as I would have expected from a young, three-chord punk style band (though the drummer looked like he earned his paycheck a few times over). That said, their songs were still tight, fast, and catchy. The crow

Guster in Tempe, Az

On Monday, September 17th, Guster played the Marquee Theatre at the north end of Tempe Arizona's Mill Avenue. I get the impression that Guster was not met by large crowds at their previous Arizona shows. This was different. While the venue did not sell out completely (well, it did on Ticketmaster), a few hundred loud and enthusiastic fans were in attendance. Guster seemed pleased with the good tur

Spoon and Sound Team at La Zona Rosa

Austin natives Spoon and Sound Team played an after show (which was really a prequel) on the Thursday before Day one of the Austin City Limits music festival. Downtown Austin's La Zona Rosa held over 100 people for a sold out show.Sound Team, which reportedly played their final show ever days later at ACL, played a great set. I was unfamiliar with them walking in, but they carried themselves very

The Arcade Fire at Austin City Limits

The Arcade Fire were one of two headliners for ACL day 2 and their performance lived up to the billing. The band opened with a thunderous version of 'Black Mirror', the opening track on the new CD. Many of the band's songs were converted to melodies as songs transitioned nicely into each other without a pause. Extended versions of 'Tunnels', 'Power Out', and 'Rebellion' closed out the initial set

Hinder, Papa Roach, Buckcherry and the Exies in Mesa, Arizona
over 4 years ago

Tuesday night, I went to see Hinder, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, and The Exies in Mesa, Az. The tour has been dubbed the Bad Boys of Rock tour. The weather may have kept some fans away from the arena; there were violent thunderstorms just a few miles north. There were only a few hundred people, well under the Mesa Art Center's capacity.Unfortunately, we missed the Exies and most of Buckcherry. We did
