Austin natives Spoon and Sound Team played an after show (which was really a prequel) on the Thursday before Day one of the Austin City Limits music festival. Downtown Austin's La Zona Rosa held over 100 people for a sold out show.
Sound Team, which reportedly played their final show ever days later at ACL, played a great set. I was unfamiliar with them walking in, but they carried themselves very well on stage. They banged out several catchy, bass-driven tunes before introducing Spoon.
Spoon came out almost an hour later than advertised and jumped right into several songs from 2007's 'Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.' The band seemed polished and confident, performing their songs to a T while throwing in several live improvs and accents. However, I thought their set list choice lacked the variety in their studio catalog.
The set list included Japanese Cigarette Case, Don't You Evah, Rhythm and Soul, You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb, Ghost of Your Lingers, Don't Make Me A Target and Underdog. The set list was noticeably low on tracks from 'Girls Can Tell' (after leaving about an hour through the set list, none had been played).
