I almost didn't click on this, as I don't particularly care for the Byrds' version of this song, as much as I love the Byrds. But it starts off nicely, then...WTF...fades after about a minute?
I'm pretty sure it's not legal to stream the entire track as it
1) Hasn't been released yet by Reprise and
2) It came from a copyrighted source which I guess I shouldn’t disclose.
At any rate, we agree, Petty rocks it
From Wikipedia:
Mudcrutch was formed in 1970 by Tom Petty (bass), Tom Leadon (guitar), Randall Marsh (drums) and Mike Campbell (guitar). Leadon left the band in 1972 and was replaced by Danny Roberts. The line-up was completed with addition of keyboardist Benmont Tench. In 1974, Mudcrutch signed with Shelter Records and re-located to Los Angeles, California. They released one single, "Depot Street", in 1975 which failed to chart.
Tom Petty's first band, The Sundowners changed their name to The Epics, and around 1970, The Epics became Mudcrutch. Much like The Beatles at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, Mudcrutch served as the house band at Dub's Diner in their hometown of Gainesville, Florida.
2008 Return
In August 2007, the original members of Mudcrutch reunited and recorded an album for release in 2008. Mudcrutch will be released on April 29, 2008, by Reprise Records, and contains 14 old and new tracks. "We would play and then we would just talk about the old days," says Tom Leadon, who left the band in 1972. The band will embark on a small tour in California to promote the album on April 12.
