Artists You Should Know About

Artist: Album: Second Rounds On Me

If you got tired of Eminem and the whole 50 Cent thing after about 5 minutes, that'd be perfectly understandable. 50 got real old after he started doin' the same shit that he was makin' diss records towards Ja Rule about, but that's a whole different post.

Only one thing is surtin (shameless plug? damn straight), the only thing that came out of Detroit on the side of Hip-Hop has been either Royce Da 5'9 or Obie Trice. Sure Eminem was hot on the Marshall Mather's LP, but Cheers was straight forward with lyrics that felt, and probably were, completely original and truthful.

Though it seemed like most people slept on Cheers, since it wasn't pushed half as hard as a Tony Gayo record. But if you didn't sleep on it, or caught Obie on mixtapes or anything like that, you know he puts his all in what he does. Or at least that's what comes through on the record for me. With tracks like "Lay Down" and "Cry Now" this album should definitely make those who slept realize what they missed out on.

Again he tells the tales of his relationship with his mom and all the things he had to endure like a lot of black males in inner cities, and puts it in a way that anyone could acknowledge. Unlike Young Jeezy and a lot of Southern rappers right now talkin' about the crack game with no other real tales of substance, Obie Trice tells a story on each track like many of the past and present great rappers. Not to mention "The Ballad of Obie Trice" puts this record on a whole new level for me, with it's production and clever lyrics, I can't say enough about this track.

Right now this record will definitely be in heavy rotation on my iPod, just because it's a lot better than every other record that's been released recently. Go cop yer copy and enjoy.

Artist: Album:

I recently made a post on my own blog about how Pharell shouldn't even try with his solo debut, but against my wishes it's going to happen.

So I grabbed the album, figured I'd check it out before passing too harsh judgement, but mostly the album is extremely forgetable with the beats being it's only real saving grace.

He's just as annoying as ever, extremely reatarded lyrics, little "stories" of his that more then likely completely fabricated, and boasting and dropping little nothings of his sexual prowess. At least Jason Mraz is somewhat subtle with his sex infatuation.

Maybe you're asking yourself, "Maybe I should buy/download it to form my own opinion", of course you're should -- but you're going to want the hour and four minutes you spent forcing yourself to listen to this dreck back.

Should have kept producing sub-par stolen arcade game kiddy beats? Damn straight.

I still think any rapper/pop "artist"/whoever should really re-think paying the Neptunes 500k for a beat, because let's be honest they haven't had a hit worth while since whatever Jay-Z beat they did.

[[Might post something on my .com blog a little later, I'm just killing time.]]

Welp just like the title says, since 7/14/06 at 3:46am I've been a new father. My beautiful baby girl came into the world at 5 lbs. 6oz. and 18½ inches.

Pretty excited, pretty tired, and a little bit stressed. Guess I 'caused a wee bit of family drama with this, being busy and stressed makes it hard to remember the big and little things. Going to have to smooth a lot over and get a lot done in what seems like a short time. That's a whole different story though...

Well I don't really know what to put other then what I've already said, I just hope I can expose her to lots of different things in life, especially different cultures and music. I think that's important whether you're a parent or not -- to expose other people to new and different things they might not have otherwise gotten the chance to discover. It's what makes life worth living, newness.

I dunno, hope everything works out for me... You can check out a picture and video of the cutie at my blog: http://blog.surtin.com

Now to figure out why I've been listening to Eleanor Rigby on repeat for the last 3 or 4 nights...

Congratulations! She looks like a sweetheart. Of all the varied things I've experienced in my life, nothing has come close to being "Dad." You have many years of joy ahead throughout the rest of your life.
