Want to play MOG through your AirPort!?

I just found radical piece of software called AirFoil that gets rid of the obscenely offensive restriction of allowing only iTunes to access your AirPort. AirFoil allows your wireless speakers to play sounds from any application on your computer!!! I have been blasting tunes all day long.

Down side, after ten minutes of play, AirFoil adds an ugly hiss to your songs unless you pay 25 bucks for the software. I have found a mini-hack. If you just keep pressing the speaker button on the AirFoil interface it resets the hiss timer to another 10 minutes.

If you know of any other software that does this, please let me know. I love my AirPort Extreme!!!

Submit your questions: Moggers Interview JG Thirlwell and Blixa Bargeld

Awesome news friends! MOG is going to be doing two interviews next week with some amazing experimental artists. First on the list is JG Thirlwell of Foetus, second Blixa Bargeld of Einstürzende Neubauten. These are two separate interviews that I am doing, but I feel the need to put their names side by side as they both helped pioneer and bring experimental/noise music to a larger audience. I absolutely love their work and can't wait to speak with them.
Like always, MOG kept all you lovely humans and lizard people in mind and want you to be as much a part of the interview process as possible. I would absolutely love to get questions from you guys and gals to ask JG and Blixa. If you haven't heard their work, first of all you are crazy, secondly check out these links:
www.myspace.com/foetus - JG Thirlwell

MOG Exclusive: Chatting With The Editors

A few weeks back I got an e-mail from the Editors management asking if I would like to do some sort of interview with the band. We came up with the idea of asking you lovely moggers for questions to have the band answer while being videoed. In New York filming a music video for their hit song 'An End Has A Start,' singer/songwriter Tom Smith and bassist Russell Leetch took some time to answer a few of your questions.
Note: The audio isn't pristine, but if you have working ears you should be able to hear things just fine.

A couple days after I sent the questions over to Tim and Russell, I got a call from the Editors team asking if I wanted to do a phone interview with drummer Ed Lay.

"Of course!" I replied.

So here it is...my first phone interview with a band:

Eric: Hey Ed, how’s it goin’?

Ed Lay: Yeah, very good thanks, I have had a good today.

Eric: Where are you right now?

Ed: We are in LA, we are doing Jimmy Kimmel tonight, it should be fun, I
hear its a good show.

Eric: Yeah, that should be fun. I have been to the set a few times when I was in LA actually.

Ed: Oh nice, cool.

Eric: Well, let's get this started. Two years ago you were working at a shoe store in Ipswich and now you are traveling all over the world playing music. Does the new life style get nerve racking at times?

Ed: Of course, its a big change, I wouldn't say it is nerve racking, its strange when you go to an airport and it is such a regular occurrence. You see people who, in their every day lives, going to an airport is such a big deal and they plan for weeks or even months about this day when they have to go and catch a plane somewhere, and you can see the panic growing on their faces. It’s like, this is just such an every day experience for me, you get quite about that sort of thing. But that’s the only real difference. We are all level headed guys, we are enjoying our lives extremely. It would be stupid not to. We have one of the greatest jobs in the world, a job that basically everybody in any other job, even if you have a good job...I am sure pro athletes have had
dreams of being a pop star [laughs]. We are having a fantastic time.

Eric: Is this something that you have always wanted to do?

Ed: When I was a kid, going to rock concerts it was always a very attractive thing. I love the noise of a club, or jumping about in the mosh pit or whatever... I was extremely turned on by that. I guess it is always something I have wanted to be involved in, the kind of excitement that goes around the music scene. Lucky enough, I get to do it.

Eric: So then, what was the point in your music career when you thought,
Ok, this is it, this is what I want to do.

Ed: Well, I guess I have only been a one band guy. I mean, as a kid I had bands where we played gigs, but it was never anything more than something we did in your spare time. So now, I really don't think, if and when this ever finishes, I don't think I would join anybody...well I mean who can say, when that time comes and I still feel like being on the road all the time, then that will be a different method. As long as I put as much effort into this project as I possibly can, I don't see that I'd want to do it with anyone else, I mean, these guys are my best friends....

Eric: Yeah, you guys went to University together and lived with each
other right?

Ed: Exactly, yeah, so we get along well and I don't think it would get any better than this.

Eric: Excellent. So, I work for a music site called MOG and some of our users have submitted questions that they would like you to answer.

Lizziegreeneyes has asked:
You guys have commonly been compared to bands like U2, Joy Division and the Cure. Do you hope to follow on a similar track & have the longevity that these bands have had & continue to have?

Ed: Yeah, absolutely, I think making records that people listen to in 10 years time, 20 years time, 30 years time is our goal I guess. You know, we aren't scenesters and we don't write music for being famous or making a name for ourselves in this moment in time. We want to have music that people just love. I mean, I guess anybody who is in a band or a solo artist wants at least one person to love them, you know, adore the music they create. We don't want the success of anybody else, we just want to
make tunes that people adore and in those terms yeah, it would be fantastic to have longevity.

Eric: Another Mogger, starbright31 asked:
You guys have had a lot of mixed reactions about the new album, when "Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors" came out, a lot of people brought out the Coldplay and Snow Patrol comparisons (instead of the Interpol and Joy Division stuff) - how do you respond to claims like that where people think that you're not being original?

Ed: Well its funny because I have actually just been flicking through some of the press we have had, especially over in the states, and it kind of goes either one of two ways. Either this album is a great step on from before, you know, 'they've used their experience and they've created a better collection of songs that makes the album a fantastic piece of work.' Or they go the other way and say it sounds exactly like the first album. And I guess some people say it is pompous and over produced and whatever - there have been some incredibly scathing reviews. The thing that really pisses you off is when they blatantly compare us to, maybe, Interpol or whatever and it gets frustrating. I really don't see any comparison at all, maybe about the soundscapes or maybe Tom's voice sounds a little similar, but it's lazy and boring. I am sure these music writers can do a better job. Anyway, its difficult and it does piss you off, but you have to take it on the chin. I think when people see us live they don't think we are anything like Interpol.

Eric: starbright31 also asked:
How did you guys feel after scoring the #1 album on the UK charts?

Ed: Amazing, I mean, first off for four guys from Birmingham who didn't have particular aspirations in being top of the charts, its great, its nice to be so loved back home and we enjoy a very healthy relationship with the fans as well. We hope to come over here and put in some good touring time and hopefully play some good shows. Its not a bother about how many records we sell, but I mean, obviously we are really enjoying
the lifestyle and we are enjoying being in the band and playing for as many people as possible. If selling records makes that happen, then it is all good.

Eric: Another Mogger has a question for you, Sureshot asks:
An End Has A Start will undoubtedly brighten your star and you're likely to be brushing shoulders with more and more celebrities following this success. So far, what has has been your weirdest experience on meeting a celebrity and who was it?

Ed: Well, we did bump into Sir Paul McCartney while filming a TV show in the UK called “Later With Jools Holland,” which is quite a big thing over there. He came into our dressing room and had a beer with us. He kind of - you're just chatting to a nice man...and then it dawns on you that he's been in the most popular band in history [laughs]. He was just genuinely fantastic, great to talk to and really interested in what we were saying. He obviously wanted to be there, he didn't really shy away from saying "Hey." That was great, but in terms of celebrity entanglement, we try and sort of distance ourselves from that, I mean, we are not fasionistas or anything, we are not the sort of people to want to be in the press with hats on. For example, we were invited to a party, like a birthday party for Sienna Miller, and we're like, why on Earth is that happening. Why is somebody we have never met inviting us to be seen at one of their parties? It is ridiculous. So no, we certainly try and keep in the shade in terms of celebrities.

Eric: But you went anyway huh?

Ed: Oh, of course [laughs].

Eric: Well that’s all for now, I really appreciate your time with us and
I wish you the best of luck on the show tonight and through the rest of the tour.

Ed: My pleasure, cool, thank you very much. Cheers.

So, I hope all you wonderful people enjoyed. Ed was such a pleasure to be introduced to... what a down to Earth guy! I can't even imagine the excitement and overall joy of being able to travel the world and play music with your best friends.

when people brought up the question, what if we are all just atoms inside something much bigger. I often forget how small I am and these images are almost comforting in a way. One day, I dream to take a rocket out into the cosmos and I am thankful for people like Richard Branson who are trying to make my dream a reality.

A Night with Matt Nathanson

Earlier this week (Tuesday, August 15th) I was invited to attend Matt Nathason's show at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. The show was put on by KFOG in celebration of Matt's new album release (Some Mad Hope) which hit shelves on Monday. The concert was FUN FUN FUN and I would go see Matt Nathanson play again any time. In all honesty, the man should second as a comedian, he is too damn funny. When I first took a listen to the album (which is great by the way) I didn't know how he was going to produce the same timbre and all around magnificent sound that came through my headphones, but somehow Matt and his band accomplished this flawlessly. The night was filled with songs old and new and even a few covers that were Nathansonified! Like, his cover of Journey's - Small Town Girl, which rocked the house to high heaven.

The atmosphere was very nice too! There were children, hipster young’ns and parents all clustered in the spacious venue and everyone had an excellent time. People were actually offering to give me their space to do some photos, which is a totally rare characteristic in human beings. Matt Nathanson fans are keepers for sure!

Here are some pictures from the night:

So, I am camping out for the iPhone at the downtown SF Apple Store

I am number three in line and it is crazy. My day started out at 9 o'clock when i woke up thinking, "what the fuck am i getting myself into." 11 hours later, i couldn't be happier i made the decision to go. What an event. I am sitting next to some dude who just got out of a 10 year prison stay. He is a huge muscle-man korean with long black hair and tattoo's everywhere. He has asked me I would like a hair cut by him so many damn times now I am fearing he might ask to cuddle later. There is no way in hell I am letting some ex-con with a razor blade shave me...even though he says he found peace through Jesus. Wait, actually, he told me "I found God, and He made me realize that as long as I "believe" I am still good in Heaven. So now I can still look at bitches and punk people who mess with me." I can not tell you the amount of times he has begged me and everyone else in line for pot. I guess some guy stole money from him and he wants to bring said guy to his grave.

I will be updating this post throughout the night. Things are only going to get crazier. I have been interviewed about 10 times now...in fact, my photo was the headline photo for Yahoo.com about one hour ago. They showed a picture of me playing the keyboard. Haha.

Thats right, I brought my paint supplies, my keyboard, and my digital 8-track. If i have the opportunity to record music tonight, i will post my Apple camp out music on MOG. I am sure everyone is really excited.

Well, it has been eons since i have last made a post, but here it is. I love everyone and I hope you love me back.

On May 23rd, 2007 I, Eric Eisher, embarked on a journey through time, space, alcohol and sound at MOG's one year anniversary party. I, by the way, came up with the name for the party (with the help of friends and a bottle of Vodka). Along for the ride came my roommates Nikon D50, and fortunately for you, I am much better at photography than I am at writing...So without further a'due.....drum roll....Eric Scott Eisher presents La photographie de Jellybone Meltdown:

BREAKING! Part of the 880 freeway collapsed 10 minutes ago.

Totally breaking. I might even be the first person in the world to post about this. pretty cool i guess.

it is 4:10 AM and my room room mate just got home. He was in Emmeryvill and saw a huge fire on a freeway overpass. He couldn't tell exactly which freeway it was but thinks it was the 880 which connects Emeryvill to Oakland.

He said the fire seemed like a gasoline fire or chemical fire. He would watch the burning liquid fall to the ground and explode into colossal flames. All over a sudden, the freeway section collapsed.

That is all i know. But i am sure this will be all over the news tomorrow

Exciting news for all you Björk fans.

Björk will be performing on SNL as the musical guest April 21st! To make things even better, the host will be Scarlett Johansson. We all know how much the world loves her.

Did you know The Sugarcubes performed on SNL in 1988? I was most likely watching Dinosaurs or drawing crayon art on the walls back then.

We were all born with the ability to change the world

Whether it be for good or evil, we are all given the chance to do something great. Hitler and Ghandi both choose a certain path in life that lead them to move an entire planet. They obviously changed the way we think in very different ways, but none the less, the did something huge.

It upsets me that people don't believe they are capable of manifesting their dreams. Since the beginning of man kind we have hurdled over the impossible. What is the next infeasible obstacle we become capable of doing, creating, etc? Any one of us can be the creator. You just have to stop putting boundaries on your life.

I started writing this song last night. I am still working on it, but it is my way of saying what i just wrote above. Let me know what you would do to make this sound better please.

Lyrics:
I believe we should ask ourselves
just what the fuck are we doing here
we were born to do anything
anyone can change the world

get off your ass and do something
all you boys and all you girls
we were meant for something more

The Moon is such a mystery to me. I often find myself staring at her in the night and become hypnotized in the way her radiance blocks out even the stars surrounding her. One day, I will gravitate to her surface.

Still don't listen to Black Moth Super Rainbow? WHY!!!

Being part of BMSR's mailing list I got this and thought I would share it with you. Their sounds are still in my rotation and hope the whole world picks up on them. THE WORLD!!!!!

They recently got done playing at SXSW and stayed with The Octopus Project. I hear that they had a last minute Rhodes fix before their performance. COOOOOL! i want a rhodes.

New York Times

Black Moth Super Rainbow, a band from Pennsylvania, makes its music from a nest of analog keyboards and a rhythm section. Its songs are pulsating neo-psychedelia, driving and dizzying, with vamps that keep on building as the keyboard sounds go whizzing, bubbling, zapping and swooping above the beat. Vocals are run through a vocoder for a vintage robotic tone, repeating lines like "I love to be with you, and this time we'll rise" or "We miss you in the summertime." Above the band, a screen showed eye-popping video animations: wildly proliferating plants, cartoon people and food in metamorphosis. The band's albums revolve around stories and conceptsits current one, "Dandelion Gum," is a tale of witches in a forestbut onstage, its music was one glorious buzz.

http://www.nytimes.com/ref/arts/music/sxsw-journal.html?ex=1174708800&en=515e9afa8677541d&ei=5070&emc=eta1

MTV.com

Gil Kaufman: The apocalyptic atmosphere on Sixth Street described above made it feel as if all hell could break loose at any moment, and that's kind of what it sounded like at Elysium during the scorched-earth show from Pennsylvania psychedelic rockers Black Moth Super Rainbow (that's the best band name ever), who performed with Austin's equally trip-tacultar Octopus Project. The instrumental experimentalists created a thundering, paisley explosion of beats and noise that might be the sound of a spaceship taking off — if its engines were made of two sets of drums, a bass, guitar, sitar, two glowing tambourines, a Theremin and four keyboards.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1554942/20070317/iggy_pop_and_the_stooges.jhtml

Chicago Tribune

THE DAY'S BEST BAND: Pittsburgh mind-melters the Black Moth Super Rainbow. The band performed while accompanied by surreal nature cartoons, which suited their trancy, propulsive synth-skronk just fine.

I have been listening to a lot of music that I haven't played in a while though. FourTet has been blasting through my speakers at home and at work lately.

If you like beats and pretty sounds, do yourself the favor of listening to this sample genius.

FourTet has been my sleepy time music for a while now. I hope some lucky sleep deprived mogger who isn't aware of this wonderful artist is able to get some shut eye with the tones.

I am at work and somebody said the word Apache....immediately i remembered the song and even better, i remembered the music video. I firmly believe this is one of the greatest things since rubber stamps.

Did you know:
"The original Shadows version was considered to be revolutionary at the time for its twangy use of guitar and its innovative tribal rhythms. It has been cited by a generation of guitarists as inspirational and is widely considered one of the most influential 45s of the pre-Beatles era. The song has also been cited by Afrika Bambaataa as an important early element of hip hop music with the record being sampled and scratched by many DJs." wiki entry

A Song a Day: Eric Eisher - Valentines Lover (A Valentines Day song from me to You)

So, my room mate Steve had some lady friends over tonight and they made Valentines day cards. That is pretty cool. Making things is fun. However, Valentines day is such a crock or crap. i really don't understand why we have to give each other candy and notes. i guess i have an irrational hatred for v-day because i never got candy or cards in grade school. girls just gave me snakes and other poisoners critters.

Here is a song i wrote about Valentines Day about an hour ago.

Lyrics:
you have to give me a bunch of fuckin candy before i'll go out with you
you have to give me a bunch of fuckin candy before i'll go out with you
you have to make me a heart shaped card before i'll go out with you
i said fuck'n make me a fuck'n heart shaped card before i'll go out with you
stuff my face full of candy so i'll get real fat for you
stuff my fucking face full of candy so i can loose all my teeth for you

A Song a Day: Eric Eisher - Ladies Man

Last night my friend made me clams and I realized that all my friends were dudes and i would much rather a girl make me clams than a guy...for whatever reason. Anyway, I started thinking to myself..."supertopsecret...why don't you have any lady friends" and then the answer hit me. It is easily because of how lame i am when i approach women. So this song encapsules my approach to women.

When I see a girl looking in my direction..my mind goes into ultra masculine male mode. I think i am the shit and there is no way this girl or any other lady around me will be able to escape my mojo-enduced tractor beam. Then I make my approach and either trip, barf, spill soda or run away in terror. I am simply not a ladies man. I have no game and i will probably be single forever. I can deal with that as I probably treat my instruments with more love than i can ever offer a simple human.

Lyrics:
Hey you
i see that you're check'n me
and don't think that
i don't know
that you now
that i am
check'n you

hey babe
don't think that im goin to fast
cause i know just what to do
in situations like this too

ok, for some weird reason, this song plays slower than i recorded. if you absolutely love this and want to hear the real faster version goto:

A Song a Day: This one is by me

this is a song i made about 2 years ago and totally forgot about. I was very much into conspiracies around that point in my life and became very political. At the moment i can not recall who gave the speech in the beginning here, i will have to update this post when i get home. I was heavily influenced by Godspeed You Black Emperor during this time in my life... if you can't tell by the composition....

It is my dream to score films so, let me know what you think about this composition. I have much room to improve and love criticism.

Oh yes. I used Audacity to record this, so sorry for the crappy recording quality. oh yeah, i suck at mastering too. my apologize(sp?)

A Song a Day: Do you like Bjork, Cat Power...Kate Bush? Check Bat for Lashes

Bat For Lashes is a group of four beautiful women who have whisked me away on unicorn driven chariots. Natasha Khan is the leading babe in this UK quartet and her friendship with Devendra is quite obvious with her crazy face paint (which is quite similar to mine i must add). It is a mix between Cat Power and Bjork in my ears, how about yours? You know, there is a little Kate Bush in there as well for all you Kate Bush fans. This is a wonderful band that my buddy Kate at work introduced me to. I think you should check them out too. Here is a YouTube clip:

This is their song Trophy

Watch the 12 minute vid-cast if you care to. it is wonderful and insightful.

Am i the only soul on this planet that doesn't know what guitar hero is?

Everyone is always talking about it and i feel totally left out. Besides the fact that i only leave my house once a month for food, i feel like a complete recluse. I don't even know what guitar hero looks like...is it on the computer? is it a wrist watch game? What ever it is....i probably shouldn't find out for i might become addicted...like the time i found out what pogs were. I would practice all night and keep my parents up with my heavy duty slammers. Those were the days..

Black Moth Super Rainbow: A Tribute song by Eric Eisher

Sometime last month I was turned on to a wonderful band named Black Moth Super Rainbow. I am now in love with the musical style of Tom Fec and all of his creative band names. I think my favorite is Satanstompingcaterpillars (former moniker of Black Moth.) As soon as i heard the sexy electric symphonies created by Tom and company i was in love. If you know me at all, you know i am a synth nerd and BMSR fulfills my love well. Using Yamaha CS synths and "secret weapon frankenstein synths," BMSR pulls all the right tones to caress my soul.

Black Moth Super Rainbow touched my heart, so I decided to create this song in the hopes that it will travel through all your cochlea's and transcend you through space an time. Maybe the band will hear it one day

Lyrics:
I see rainbows when i close my eyes. They, creating unicorns in my mind.
Black Moth Super Rainbow Makes Me Envision Unicorns

Goodbye Black Moth. Safe travels to you and your super rainbows! (mike murdock spoke the end)
.........................

So, if you haven't heard of black moth super rainbow go here:

Another song of mine because i know you want it

So a while ago i was working for this call center. There wasn't a day that went by where a person didn't preach the bible to me. i had 5 managers telling me the same crap every day and when i made a mistake it got the same criticizing from each of them. So, i went home one night and recorded this song:
its called i hate my job. here are the lyrics

i made this song
in 20 minutes
and i hate my job
and i hate my job
i made this song in 20 minutes
it is for the world
it is for the world

p.s.s.s.s.s: i don't hate the job i have now. this one is pretty gosh darn great

Ok, here is a song of mine for you guys to review.

1985 is a song i wrote while i was living at my old place in berkeley. I set up a mic in my living room and played guitar while my room mates were talking. They were usually stoned and made no sense but this song right here is telling the first memory my room mate Jasper can remember.

i can't recite it word for word...but here is a try:
in 1985 i lived in a small house behind another house
my dad begged my mom to get a television
but she said no
finally she allowed my him to get a tv
and he would watch star trek all day.

the song is probably super low in sound. deal with it. let me know what you think.

Martin Luther King Jr.

In remembrance of a true hero:
Together we can make a difference. What would Martin Luther think if he saw how the world is today. Nearly 40 years after his death the wall between races is still standing strong. In Dr. King's life time, all too short i might add, he changed the course of an entire nation, his voice spoke louder than God's and his message spread through out the world. WE ARE ALL, EQUALLY, GIVEN THE CHANCE TO CHANGE THE WORLD IN OUR LIFETIMES. Whether it be for good or evil, we are all given that chance. More of us should use it, including me. On August 28, 1963 from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther spoke to a crowd of over 200,000 people. "I have a dream" he said, "that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." That quote resonates through my bones. One day his dream will come true and it is in our power to bring it to life.

So I played my first Show last night. here is the scoop

so last night I played my first show at the Missouri Lounge. They had open mic night and I could only play for ten minutes. My brother Darren and I had a few minor mistakes but still, everything was on time and we did just fine. The whole show was improvised, Darren and I had only practiced once before for about 1 hour. I was kind of pissed though, the PA system we used at the bar sucked and none of my bass lines could go through, so the performance was overly treble-ey. Damn, that really upset me, but whatever...i am going to try and upload the performance tonight. The recording didn't turn out too well, so i might just post my first improve practice with brother Darren up here.

Peace out brothers and sisters.

I embark on a new journey in my musical life tomorrow. I am going to play an improve show tomorrow at The Missouri Lounge ultimate dive bar in Berkeley. It is open mic night there, so my buddy Herbgerbler and I are going to bust in there, play for ten minutes and take off without saying bye. I think it will be fun. Darren and I have only played music together two times, so we will see what happens. I am going to record the show on this old tape recorder i have and post it up. Wish me luck moggers.

This is the most interesting post ever

This gets really really loud so watch your speakers.

Chladni's most well known achievements was inventing a technique to show the various modes of vibration in a mechanical surface.

Chladni's technique, first published in 1787 his book, Entdeckungen ueber die Theorie des Klanges, consists of drawing a bow over a piece of metal whose surface is lightly covered with sand. The plate is bowed until it reaches resonance and the sand forms a pattern showing the nodal regions . Since the 20th century it has become more common to place a loudspeaker driven by an electronic signal generator over or under the plate to achieve a more accurate adjustible frequency.

Variations of this technique are commonly used in the design and construction of acoustic instruments such as violins, guitars, and cellos.

I certainly hope Kate enjoys all the interesting things i have to say in this post.

Oprah Say's: Gerald Ford vs James Brown

VS

Ok here is the battle. I read this post over at Something Glorious and couldn't agree more. Did Gerald Ford -still- steal the spot light from James Brown. I think so, and that is not cool. Not that I am necessarily upset with Mr. Ford, but Sir Brown deserved more tv cred!
From Something Glorious:
...As soon as Ford died, the media seemingly lost interest in James Brown and focused completely on funeral arrangements for Ford...Sure, troops were withdrawn from Vietnam during his term, but Ford was also heavily criticized for pardoning Richard Nixon. James Brown influenced countless musicians and singers (gospel, rock, R&B, soul, funk) during the last 50 years...

The debate is whether you think:
1) Was the media correct to drop coverage of James Brown and turn its collective attention to Gerald Ford?

2) Which of these men had a bigger impact on the zeitgeist of America?

Oprah say's "Holy Crap! New Rob Crow solo project!"

Hello there. Not too long ago, Pinback was the only thing played through any speakers in my house. I loved them and needed to know more of what the members have done. This lead me to find all of Rob Crow's side projects from the suck, Goblin Cock, to the gold, Optiganally Yours. Anyway, after browsing around some of my daily blog reads I found out about a new release of his called Living Well. I don't know what it will be like, but am excited to give it a listening to. I was told by MOG Spencer that the album is not all that good, however I still want to put the sounds to my ears.

Here's more from Each Note Secure dot Com:
...Rob Crow has done solo work in the past, some of it good, but its been mostly inconsistent in my opinion. Living Well is the title to his newest release, which will hit shelves on January 23rd via the Temporary Residence label.

While its true alot of Robs solo work has been up and down for me, the first single from the new album is a high point though, hitting on some of the finer points of what makes me a big Pinback fan...
Read All

here is a link to one of the songs off the album titled "I hate Rob Crow":

New songs up for listening

I have two new songs up on my myspace if anyone cares to hear them. I want to make a full album and have no body to critique my sound. Most people I know don't even know I play music and I think i am finally ready to show people I can.

The first song:
Airplanes
I used a thumb piano and a small xylophone for the main background.
I used a tamborine, wooden block and a bottle of vitamins for the drum beat
I over dubbed my vocals to make a chorus

Second:
Story of the Stars
I used a piano and synth
Spoons and a small stick on my computer monitor for the hi hit
Beat boxed
Over dubbed for chorus
Bass guitar was used as well

I don't really know how to master all that well and use headphone for levels so it might sound weird through your speakers. Oh yeah, I have a 5 dollar mic i am using as well. if someone wants to buy me a mic i would be really happy.

This track sounds as if could have been on Stevie Wonder's Hotter Than July and totally flowed along with all the tracks. Please do yourself a favor and funkify your day a little. Damn this track is hot.

Here is some small info from 3Hive:
"A quick Money Mark refresher: He was instrumental, literally and figuratively, on Beastie Boys albums like Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, and the oh, so groovy The In Sound From Way Out. He also played on a couple Beck records, Blackalicious and the first Handsome Boy Modeling School." >ReadMore<

My New Years started off with a bang!

I have decided that I love Jewish women more than any other type of woman. Unfortunately my unsavvy attempts of flirting left me making out with a my main man Charles Shaw all night. We just kicked it the two of us, while everyone else was in the living room partying into the new year. Not much is remembered after finishing up the bottle of Chuck. I am told that i was quite charming towards the end of the night and I even had a lengthy impromptu speech about how I diserved a warm blanket more than anyone else. The aforementioned speech is what lead to my cozy slumber on a plush couch. The bits and pieces of the night I can recall however were of me dancing around like a fairy princess to Serge Gainsbourg whilst drinking unheard of amounts of Anchor Steam on tap. Somewhere deep into the night i was introduced to my future wife. Her name is Reena, i think, and she told me about her plans on saving the world. I obviously failed at any attempt to have her fall for me. Her damn ex boyfriend totally destroyed the small amount of game i have learned through watching Boyz n the Hood and Gangsters Paradise. Chalres and I had a quite night and I wound up with the warmest blanket in the house, so all in all, this new year has started off quite well. I wasn't even hung over, although I did trip and fall during my first few steps in the morning. I have a lot to learn before the next year. I will adjust my suaveness from being gangsta fresh to a more laid back, romantic Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic type. Then I will get all the babes.

Happy New Year everymog,

This day in 1845 Texas became our 28th state. A million hangings and prolonged incarcerations for minor offenses later, Texas really hasn't changed much, and for that, I congratulate them. Here's to never changing ever ever.

I owe my damn bank 180 dollars

If there is something I hate more than wet babies it is banks. I use US Bank. They are nice and sweet to me when I have money in it, but I am in the process of moving and am draining my account because of the deposit etc. I forgot about a bill that automatically draws my account and it wiped me dry. SOOOOO, anyway, I bought a bunch of Barry Manilow and Joni Mitchell for friends from all over town. They all cost me two dollars but the over drafts charged me 34 each!!!!! Needless to say I am pissed.

I realize it is my fault in the long run but i won't let that stop me from blasting Black Sabbath and drinking some whiskey until i am full of holiday joy. Black Sabbath has done nothing but inspire me to drink booze. I am thankful for that

So this happened to me, Oprah, last Wednesday night while eating my really expensive rice.

I sat down to eat my wonderful food and I feel this crazy pain in my back. I pull off my shirt and ask my room mate to see if there is a spider biting my back or something. He said no but that there was a red mark. So I open up my button down shirt I had been wearing all day and there was a wasp crawling around on the inside. I have no idea how it could have got there as I was wearing a hoodie all day long and only took it off when i got home from work. So, this is the first bee sting i have had in a while. AND IT AIN"T SO BAD ( :

Foursquare and Oprah in highschool

So, I just had a random flashback of my high school days when i was the biggest loser on campus. My grandma used to buy me all these awesome clothes from a company called FourSquare. Foursquare is a snowboard apparel company with a logo that I used to love. Well, for a while my whole wardrobe was foursquare and rumors started spreading that i rode for the team or was sponsored. So skinny unpopular me decided it would be a good idea to hit the slopes down Liar's Ville and see what happened. Everything was cool, all the popular kids started inviting me to go snowboarding with them and when it came time to go on a trip, I had to let them know the truth. I had never gone snowboarding before!!! Needless to say, I was the laughing-stock of the jocks. For whatever reason I cared.

The funniest part about the whole thing is that i used to dress like this guy for such a long time. Later Bros

I need to be out of my pad by Jan 1st and I haven't even looked at any rooms yet. I am kind of freaked out but I think I will be fine. Strange thing though. I can't figure out why, but there are dead lady bugs all over my room. They are stuck on my walls as if they had flown into my room, landed on a wall, and forgot to move. When I say all over my room, I mean everywhere. I can easily spot 8 on my window frame right now. All this time I thought the black marks on my ceiling were nail holes. NOPE. Dead lady bugs.

He is a wonderful artist full of whimsical tunes to carry you off to mystical places.

So i decided to call my small album Living Room Discussions. Basically I am recording the strange conversations that go on in my living room and adding a little bit of music behind it. Everything is super minimalistic and I am not going to spend more than one hour on each track. There will be a bunch of mess ups I am sure. Unfortunately my idea might be short lived as I wanted to record a new song each day until I move out and my room mates are kind of beating me at that. The owner of our house wants to take it back so everyone has to leave by the end of the month. I have four tracks so far, as this project started on Thursday.

OH NO!!! DID EVERYONE HEAR WHO DIED!!?!?!?!?

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment
community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection
and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.

Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of
Celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs.
Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a
man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in
show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not
considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked
schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was a crusty old
man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough
and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by
his elderly father, Pop Tart.

The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

I have a song idea and it involves YOU!!!! Thats right YOU!!!

So here is the deal. I want to test my song writing abilities. So I want each of you to write me one word to 10 sentences of song lyrics and then put a genre of music you would like me to sing them in.

I am going to compile all the lyrics into one song and sing each one in the genre you write in the order you write them in.

I am not even sure how this will work out because the lyrics probably wont make any sense. But i want to try this. I am going to collect all the lyrics at 5PM PST. maybe 5:15 who knows.

Lets make this song about a lost puppy..I'll start:

Puppy, Puppy where are you
I thought you loved me but you ran away
-Classic French sound

Eric Eisher - My Living Room

I have been living in a very strange environment the past couple of months. It has shown me a lot of what and where I want to be and what where I don't want to be. I live in a nice house near UC Berkeley with two other room mates. Two room mates and 3 other people who just kind of crash on the floor. The age range at my house runs from 21 to 45 years old. Some believe they are fairies (literally, they really do), some hate the government more than one could ever imagine, and others havent left the couch since the day i arrived. My living room is full of crazy discussions, especially once the pipe is being passed around. The house is going to be taken back by the owner at the end of the month so I will have to get out of there. Before I leave though, I would like to record an album in it. This will be my first album I have ever released. I don't even know how to go about making an album or getting people to hear about it. Everything is going to be for free, so I will probably just post all my songs on some website. I have decided to call the album "Living Room Discussions". I choose this title because I am going to try, until the day I move out, to record a new song in the living room during everyones chats. I have no idea what it will sound like, but I recorded one of the songs last night. Let me know what you think. Please.

JTturbofan and I collaborated on a track!! LISTEN, if not for us, then fo Jesus

This is a song that I composed for MOG user JTTurbofan. JT is a very spiritual guy from...well, i don't know where he is from, but he is always releasing interesting vocal works about his savior Mr. Jesus Christ.
I felt that his music was lacking a little flavor so I told him I would score his vocal works.
A few drinks and pounds of the keyboard resulted in this masterpiece here. JT calls it The Courageous One. I hope everyone enjoys.

Let me know what you think. Review it ( : haha.
If you have a project you would like me to add some flavor to, just let me know. Recording music is my life....actually, it is pretty unhealthy. I play the damn melodica in the shower. Cleanist melodica around.

Check the song here!! Click to go towards the song!

Check JT out here:

You have probably seen many of his posts. I guarantee this is one song to check out.

Ratatat Live review.....You should check them out....maybe

Last night Camel cigarettes hosted a concert at The Mezzanine featuring Ratatat and The Faint. I was offered a free ticket to go and thought, hey, i liked Ratatat's hip hop remixes and their first album was got my booty shakin'. Needless to say, i decided to go and see what they were like live. After a few drinks I migrated through the vagabond filled streets of downtown SF and wound up at the venue. I was fortunate enough to skip the long line of make-up and big hair that flooded the streets and wound up inside the two story Mezzanine ready for more drinks and, hopefully, a good show. Not to long after my arrival, Ratatat started playing. Let me first start off by saying that prior to this show, all I knew about Ratatat is that they were duo from NY. I had never read a live review so I was curious to see how their music was performed. Before getting into it I should say that I went to watch a performance rather than dance. I was a little drained from the day and I was a tidbit drunk. Ratatat's live sound was dead on, they didn't miss a beat and everything sounded just as they had recorded it....probably because such a high percentage of their music is pre recorded sampling. Their performance however lacked so much energy. Mike Stroud had his head low during the majority of the show hiding his face under his long hair, the lighting was predictable an seemingly uncreative to me, and although I award them points for touring with a keyboardist, he just kind of sat there and hammered -ivory- plastic. They are a damn synth pop band, I want to see their shirts fly off due to extreme rocking out, instead I observed a stagnant stage with pre-recorded beats moving the crowd. I am all about small collectives/solo artists composing great music, but my god, are you telling me they couldn't get a drummer and another guitarist to add a little more action on the stage. Perhaps I am being harsher than I should be, the show was great, they got people dancing and that is what they are good at. Even I felt like joining the crowd for 'Wildcat' and my personal favorite 'Seventeen Years'. I just felt their stage presence was a snooze.
I think I had a better time watching my new friend Nicholi, who is by far the most flamboyant man I have ever met, smoke pot and display extremely graphic gay porn via his cell phone to anyone his arm could reach out to.
As for The Faint, they progressively become better and better at putting on a show. A few years back I would have ate a small child or kitten to see one of their shows. This time I watched atop the balcony bar, and as a squinted to focus my blurry beer-vision, I thoroughly enjoyed their performance.
So my final thoughts on the Ratatat performance. If you are looking to get wasted and dance your ass off, go and see this show, they do a great job at that. Otherwise, I don't think you will have too much fun. Sorry

Tom Waits is filling my heart with little tears of joy right now

If you haven't heard the latest three disc release by Tom Waits, I am telling you, you are really missing out on a musical adventure. It is so wonderful. I am listening to the song Shiny Things on repeat right now and it nearly has me in tears. The song paints an aural landscape of a lone park in the middle of blues town. Heads hang low as the sky has no mystery anymore. Will someone throw this guy a happy pill.

Are you a fan of Mum or Coco Rosie? You might like Lullatone. check this

Lullatone are an experimental band from Japan composed of Shawn James Seymour : melodies & Yoshimi Tomida : vocals. Lullatone create sounds that bring you to day dreams of grassy fields.

I have the album Computer Recital. In short I would describe it as a minimalist electronic instrumental. Very short, but delicious. The song I have posted is all organic, however I believe most of their work is electronic. -The sound in this video clip is very similar to coco rosie, if you are a fan of them, you will love this i assure you.- Stupid myspace video isn't working.

here is a different video that shows you another beautiful side of Lullatone. This clip is closer to a MUM sound.

Something about this mans voice makes this song so much more beautiful. The choir in the background and the elderly in the background make this a very moving, almost tear jerking experience. If i was watching this live I would have probably been sobbing like a baby.

Everyone here know of Pinback? good old times

I am listening to Blue Screen Life right now and it is totally bringing me back to my high school days. I would get home from school and put this album on repeat while I tried to dive into nothingness. Rob Crow has given us so many strange albums but this was his first band, that i know of at least, with a structure fit for the masses.
If you haven't heard Pinback, don't limit yourself to Blue Screen life as all the albums are very consistent. Melodic melodies, dramatic chord changes and corny lyrics make this bass driven duo a huge love of mine.

So did everyone hear about Lady Sovereign's break down at the El Ray Theater two weeks ago? I was browsing through Flickr sets and found this. I am really proud of her for returning to stage, it must have taken a lot of strength. Here is what the Flickr-er wrote about the show:
"Lady Sovereign attempted to do probably what her record label told her was a really important show. There was a Def Jam meet & greet planned after the show, I'm sure tons of radio and press were there and the show was completely sold out. As she attempted to sing and repeatedly lost her voice, you could see the pain and frustration on her face and she was reduced to tears and had to leave the stage twice"

Good morning to everyone. It is 8:30 PST and those nasty eye boogers will not release themselves from my face!! I hate those things. I thought I would start my day off with some groovey funk by 4 Hero. The damn weather man keeps tripp'n me out saying it is going to rain, but it never does. Anyway, I am just blabb'n. I have been listening to 4 Hero for a while now. Anybody else dig them?

Amadou & Mariam AGHHH SO GOOD!!! Please do your ears the favor

Have you ever heard these people! This whole album is so amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who cares anything about music. This is my first listen and I just keep playing it over and over. Every track blends perfectly into the next creating a masterpiece of sound for my ears. Here is wikipedias words on them..i am too lazy to write. Dimanche A Bamako was produced by Manu Chao.

Wikipedia:
Amadou and Mariam are a musical duo from Mali, composed of the couple Mariam Doumbia (vocals) (born in Mali's capital Bamako 15 April 1958) and Amadou Bagayoko (guitar and vocals) (born in Bamako 24 October 1954). The pair, known as "the blind couple from Mali" met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, and found they shared an interest in music.

Between 1974 and 1980, Amadou played with Les Ambassadeurs du Hotel and in 1980 the couple got married and began to play together as well as Amadou continuing with a successful solo career and running the blind institute's music programme.

By 1985 the couple had made a name for themselves playing Malian blues and they embarked on a tour of Burkina Faso and in 1986 the couple moved to the Côte d'Ivoire and recorded several cassette albums and eventually the album Sou Ni Tile in Paris, which became a hit in France and started playing at festivals around the world.

In 2003 they were approached by world/Latin music star Manu Chao, who then produced their 2004 album Dimanche à Bamako (Sunday in Bamako).

In 2006 they recorded, together with Herbert Grönemeyer, the official anthem for the 2006 FIFA World Cup "Celebrate The Day" (German: "Zeit, dass sich was dreht"). The song topped the German charts in June 2006.

MOG MOG MOG MOG MOG

So I am finally back in my beautiful hometown of Encinitas and just had a great dinner with my father. It was great, we talked about jazz and my mom's fiancee (whom my father and i love to joke about). So, there is where i am at in life ( :

Music news...I am pretty new to Serge Gainsbourg and every time I put his music on I just want to boogie woogie-woogie. It is so weird! If you haven't had the chance to check any of his music out I would suggest you start with the song Comic Strip with Brigitte Bardot. I can't really say which album it is off of as I have a greatest hits album. Brigitte Bardot adds such awesome character to this song. It reminds me of Bjork in Sugarcubes. Listen listen listen. Good night.

And it was wonderful. I haven't had a such a great music night in a long time. I played music for my family and their friends and everyone one just chilled outside and fell asleep on their lounge chairs to Agaetis Byrjun. It is such a great feeling to share great music with people. Especially people who think there is nothing much better than My Chemical Romance. So to turn on a crowd of people to new listens really made my evening. I went through some easy finds for everyone to chill to. From Mum to Sigur Ros to Air. It was nice. I am in a great mood!!! MOG love.

Sparks debut album has to be one of my favorite records to play. It is just so damn great. I really can't get enough of it. I have to give many props to Todd Rundgren for producing such great sounds as well. I am keeping this post short, so I guess i will end it by saying I did not really feel their last album which was released earlier this year I believe...but hey, anyone who keeps releasing albums for 30 years is a hero in my book.

So, as promised..I said I would write a song for the winner of the small contest I made yesterday.

Oedipa Maas was the winner but says he couldn't have done it without the help of Touchtheceiling.

SOOO, I will write a song that acknowledges both of you as winners. I hope you are both excited. Actually, I will just be happy if either Oepipa or Touch even read this. Anyway, I will write the song tonight.

If either of you read this. Let me know if there is anything specific you would like to hear in the song.

I have been having such problems sleeping lately. Fortunatly for me, I don't need too many hours of sleep every night, but oh how I love a great slumber. Sometimes I wonder whether I would like to live in a dream state or whatever you call our physical world. I mean, I guess we collectively create that one too right? Anyway, I am listening to A Silver Mount Zion.. and with the help of my hippy grandma's old cough inducing medicine, I am in a pretty blissful state. Silver Mount Zion has always seemed to piant this aural backdrop for me, I can almot see what they are playing. Unfortunately I can't quite doze off yet as I am still doing some work. I am going to see my enitre family(mother's side) this weekend. It is going to be a bit of an experience I am sure. My family doesn't quite see the world as I do. Perhaps I will bring my tamborine etc. to their Arizona shack and make everyone help record a little song. That will surely start u a fun conversation. Wish everyone great slumber. Hope your dreams are radical

SUPERTOPSECRET PRESENTS: NAME THOSE ALBUMS!!!! win a costum song just for you and your friends and the world

Ok..so this is easy as butter. Here are some of my favorite albums. I took off the album and artist name and you have to guess them! So...you all have to understand, i am a pretty lazy guy. SOOO. Please list all your answers in one post..and you can guess as many times as you want. Work off eachothers answers.

THE PRIZE!!
I will write a song for the winner. You can choose what I sing about, it can be your name, a girl/boy/rodent you like. Perhaps a thanks giving song. I don't care. You can also tell me certain instrument/sound samples you would like. It will be fun.

Remember, keep guessing and look both ways before crossing the street.

This contest thing ends when ever someone gets them all right..or when ever people stop posting..then i will choose the winner by closet answers and post date. ( :

So last night was pretty interesting. It started off with a beer or two and wound up with me creating a song for Mog expressing my love. You should check it out. Perhaps write one of your own? So don't mind my voice, i am not a singer at all. To make this song I used a 2 dollar mic, Cubase, Piano, Melodyman melodica, guitar, bass and keyboard drums..oh i also used beer and handclaps. Enjoy

Heres the link: Just press download and it will play via Multiply.com
