This is about the most out of tune piano I've every heard the pleasure of Bill Evans playing. It's such a joy to hear him solo in this context. Amazing. I thought I'd heard it all, but this live Miles quintet recording circa '58 is a mini-holy grail.Check out "What is this Thing..." for some crazy beatnik bongo action! Crazy baby!Thanks MOG. Ignore the AMC review. This is a really unique recording, particularly the crazy stuff on the latter half of the album. Bill Evans is playing all this wacky atonal stuff, and the drummer, Marty Morell is playing like John Bonham with brushes. I have this on vinyl, and yes, the audio is pretty lousy, and this CD transfer is even worse. There's an energy here I've never heard on any other Evans reco

My 6 year old likes to fall asleed to this. In fact, it's been a favorite for him since he was 2. Interesting how it got a low rating. It is an incredibly moving peice. I could do without the Tom Waits cameo, but I guess it works. It plays one sample over and over, and then an orchestra accompanys in an evolving movement.
