WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

Last days of summer

It is 80 degrees in NYC today and I had one of those zen moments when music and weather converge. This is what was playing on my iPod...

  3. sugarbaby says I felt transported to a place where it is always balmy and life is simple. It reminded me of certain happy summer memories. Had I been walking down a crowded Manhattan street without the song playing in my head, I probably would have only felt hot.

  6. sugarbaby says I ♥ NY... in any season :) Even when it is a "balmy" 120 degrees in the subway... However, this Stereophonics-inspired summer feeling was more beachy, light, warm-breeze-blowing-through-my-hair rather than sticky, dirty, smelly, mole-people-living-in-underground-tunnels. If anyone wants to attempt to recreate this feeling (although it would be with your own hair), today seems like it will be another Stereophonically warm day. Grab your iPods...

  8. blueone51 says On the north side of the island of Kauai there is a stretch of road through the rain forest with a bridge that crosses the Kalahewai River. To the right the river falls out of the mountains and to the left is the flood plain leading to the ocean. On all sides trees, vines and flowering plants overhang the road. One morning my son and I were driving to the town of Ka’paa on the road and as we approached the bridge the local NPR station began playing Pat Metheny’s “Last Train Home”. The music seemed to fit in one of those unexplainable ways – the right place, the right time, the right sound. We just looked at each other and without saying a word we knew it was special thing that we were lucky to share. We’ve driven that road countless times since then but, as beautiful as it remains, lighting has never stuck again.
