Fox: embedded 'til the end

Posted almost 6 years ago
So we all know that Fox News is pure nonsense, so deeply in the pockets (and on the love rockets) of the GOP that the network presents nothing but the type of pure propaganda that Orwell warned us all about. But as I watched last night's major league baseball All Star game, it occurred to me that Fox Sports is just as embedded/in bed with baseball as the news division is with the Bush administration. In the midst of the the rule of the worst commissioner in the history of professional sports, "Used Car" Bud Selig, the network did nothing but fawn over the man and the product, substituting hype, hyperbole and hagiography where some gosh darn honest descriptions of the game and the men playing it would've gone a long, long way.And shame on the sport and the network for selling out so hugely to its sponsors -- does anyone really think that a $40,000 Chevy Canyonero really means spit as an award to the game's most valuable player? To someone who makes millions, what's the point? (Except to give camera time to a gas-guzzling piece o' crap I'd be embarassed to drive, along with some suit from General Motors who gets to read his talking points during what should've been a celebration of Michael Young's awesome clutch hitting.)Blech.
