WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Rothbury cliffnote's review

Posted about 1 year ago

props to Madison house and AEG for generally pulling off the first annual Rothbury Music festival this weekend. there were no major glitches, the crowd was very cool and the main stage sound was excellent.

observations:

the site and amenities were excellent, and it makes bonnaroo look like a concentration camp.

with attendance at around 35,000, the place was perfectly comfortable. it was ultra fan friendly, though clearly the promoters need another 10,000 to make it economically interesting.

ex SCI lighting guru Andy Carrol did an epic job turning Sherwood forest into a after hour surreal paradise. clearly the coolest visual thing i have ever seen at a concert or event.

it was not as evolved environemtally or socially as the organizers orignally conceived

Highlights: sets by the Drive-By Truckers, The Dresden Dolls and Taj Mahal. the resurection of Widespread panic( thanks to Jimmy Herring)

Lowlights: due to poor scheduling ( and bad travel logitics on my part), i missed The Black Keys, Spearhead, Keller Williams and Snoop Dogg

Verdict: a solid addition to the already crowded festival season

Did you perchance catch the 3/4 Phish reunion doing the Beatles "She Said, She Said"?

Funny, I have come to appreciate what Phish does a whole lot more over the years they haven't been doin it...

So you were there? The world keeps getting smaller. I had no idea this event was happening or where. I drove up to my Moms last Friday and drove past the venue. I did not find out what it was until I read Charley's review yesterday. Turns out even tho we were not there together, we were still close. Are you still in this neck of the woods? ( I doubt it ) If so, you need to come and spend a time in Manistee. Mom has a place on the water, is amazing, I love it up here. Anyways, maybe chat with ya soon:) Love ya man....

Man, it really was an awesome time.  I had a blast.  I was also fortunate enough to sit next to the cactus himself, Mike Gordon, while eating lunch at the airport on Monday.  It was surreal.
