While driving home from a Thai restaurant with a close friend who opened my eyes to how to have better taste in music he popped in Lily Allen's new CD. "She's like the First Lady of MySpace" he quipped. And boy howdy can I see why. Her songs are catchy and lyrics are provocative. I like how honest and silly her songs are. It's a good collection of getting ready to go out songs, as well as driving to the bar songs. I like that she kind of came out of nowhere and used the internet to gain popularity. And that she's so witty and doesn't hide her accent in her songs. Check it out

I love her. She's been a huge commercial success overseas... her albums are at the top of the charts. It'll be interesting to see how America takes hold of her.

Finally got a listen not too long ago and I like it! She has some great lyrics, very tongue in cheek and super catchy. Would love to hear her album in its' entirety.

I know a lot of people can't handle reading/writing while music is playing but often times it helps me. There was this entire semester that I wrote all my papers while listening to Want One and Want Two by Rufus Wainwright. It was theraputic or something. And whenever I read classic kind of stuff like Steinbeck or Faulkner I want to listen to classical music. Yo-Yo Ma's Bach albums in particular are the perfect backdrop and I know it seems reallly cliche that I listen to classical music whilst reading the classics, but it just works for me. The silence is much more deafening and loud than a little background tunes to accompany my work. And a lot of times I find myself being more productive like, "I need to write 2 paragraphs by the time I get to Track 4." A silly mindgame I know, but it makes working much more enjoyable for me. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I love studying with Incubus on in the background. Something about singing "Drive" alone in my room makes it all more bearable.

Sometimes I listen to one of two albums from Rachel's. Either 'systems/layers' or 'Music for Egon Schiele'. 'The Sea and the Bells' is very pretty as well, but it's a little too chaotic to get anything accomplished to.

I would suggest 'systems/layers' for general listening too. It's just a fantastic album.

Is anyone else out there embarrassed by the Mog-O-Matic? I mean, yes, this whole Mog thing is pretty awesome, but upsettingly enough the first group on my list of artist is *NSync. Are they crappy? Yes. Would I give up the memories of me partying with my college roomates while listening to a random bout of pop they created? Never. The fact that they have the top spot is a source of deep embarrassment, but perhaps it only adds to the eclecticity of my music. Nah, it just kind of makes me feel like a loser. But hey, at least I'm enlightened enough to listen to music like "Loser" by Beck and am lucky enough to have their cruddy "Bye Bye Bye" pop up on my iPod every now and then and remind me of being a silly college girl.

Balance it out by moving your "Last Songs Played" and "Top Artists" widgets higher up. Then when people are impressed and scrolling down, you hit 'em with the *Nsync.

yeah, i agree with known human. there was talk of sorting the digital collection widget by number of tracks for each artist (that is, the artist with the highest number of tracks would be at the top, instead of alphabetical order). i hope this is still in the works.
