Tragic news has spread across the digital land that Gideon Baws of the talented Shynola has pasted away at age 33.
Shynola consisted of Gideon Baws, Chris Harding, Richard (Kenny) Kenworthy and Jason Groves. Their name is coin by a Steve Martin line, "You don't know shit from Shinola." from The Jerk. This was also cheekily illustrated at the enter page of their old website.
Their portfolio is an awing achievement including one of my dear favourites, Blur's Good Song. I cheered every time their work is shown at Resfest, like barracking for a mate.
His brilliance and wit will be sorely missed but his contribution will live on. It's a shame I never met you, Gideon Baws.

This tiny, hairy fella will be the envy of the indie crowd because not only he's been neatly groom to assist Greg the octopus drummer, his syncopation and relaxed sauntering technique works hand in hand to Satomi's gentle, naive vocals. He is the fifth member of Deerhoof, Fresh Born!
This track was first released as sheet music, promoting the music network to make their mark onto Deerhoof's latest release, Offend Maggie. My highlights would be Aaron Novik's clarinet edition, or in my books the Fraggle Rock version, and The Hidden Messages' ADHD rendition.
The first 500 pre-orders through Kill Rock Stars comes with a book of handwritten sheet music and LP orders come with free digital download — A wise move indeed.
If you've got a soft spot for noise, punk, avant garde and Jim O'Rourke, John Cage, Merzbow rings the bell, then bookmark this gem! It's an ongoing catalogue of rare tapes, 7"s and LPs for sale. You can download and listen before you buy - Eureka!
