MOG

So yesterday I dragged a few friends along with me to the Uh Huh Her in-store at Nettwerk Sync on Wilcox. Most of you are probably asking yourself, who the hell is Uh Huh Her? Isn't that the title of a PJ Harvey album? (Yes). Well, UHH is a, thus far, two piece group consisting of Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey (bass and keyboards for Mellowdrone). Since I like cooking up analogies, I'd say that they sound like the product of a nuclear fusion between The Cure, Tegan and Sara, and the Sounds. Awesome, right? They only have a 5 song ep (title: I See Red) out right now (6 if you get it off of ITunes with the bonus track, Mystery Lights which is stellar), but from what I've jammed to so far, this band has great things destined for them. I mean maybe I'm just a sucker for keyboards and heavy synth work, but I wouldn't be surprised if this stuff was being pounded through speakers all over indie dance clubs all over LA and NYC come next year. As for their set, I don't know if it was the intimacy of the Sync, or the perfect set-up of sound equipment that day, or just the fact that UHH knows how to roll...but hot damn do they put on a great live set--a perfect blend of sincere music playing (I say this because I always am reminded of how pissed off and annoyed Lian and Noel Gallagher appeared to be when they played the Hollywood Bowl two years ago) and talking in between songs. Hopefully this little project turns into something giant and the label gives them some money to make a killer full-length album, because this stuff needs to be heard. Usually I'd name a few songs to listen to, but in this case my advice is just to drop a few dollars and get the whole EP; get it shawty!
