I've always loved Anberlin, so it comes to no surprise that I was SUPER pumped for their new album, Cities, to come out. Suffice to say it is the most amazing album they have put out thus far. I can't explain it, but if you follow their progression from Blueprints for the Black Market to Never Take Friendship Personal to Cities, you'll see tremendous growth in their work, both musically and lyrically. This album is definitely the most mature and I haven't felt so moved by an entire album in such a long time (think: DCFC - transatlanticism). There isn't one weak track on it and each song perfect in it's own different way. Different's the key word here because sometimes a band may be talented but all of their songs may sound very similar. Each song on Anberlin's new album has a different tone and mood, whether that's brought out by the use of an acoustic guitar, heavy but sharp electric guitar distortion, a reverberating echo on key guitar riffs, or synth work. My favorites as of now include: A Whisper & A Clamor, The Unwinding Cable Car, Alexithymia, Inevitable, Dismantle. Repair. There's also a cover of Depeche Mode's "The Promise" that is pretty impressive. The vocals seem a little too quick-paced for my liking, but it's still great and if it sounded exactly like Depeche Mode it wouldn't be a cover now, would it. The album release has made me just that much more excited to see them (and Meg and Dia) next tuesday.----This is the correlation of salvation and loveDon't drop your arms, I've got your heartWith quiet words I'll lead you in
