Chet Atkins' Workshop

I bought the album in 1963 follwing hearing some of Atkins' work at a friend's house. I still have it, and also have a separate extra album cover which a kind record dealer gave me as a souvenir. I have always been a great fan of Chet's music - or rather his treatment of music - as he did a lot of covers. For me, he is the master technician of the guitar and his style of playing is unique, built on his experiences over the decades. He makes the instrument 'talk', which is always the signature of a top-class musician. This particular album is almost ethereal in its treatment of some well-known tunes/songs, and is my favourite of all the albums of his that I have. It was recorded at his home studio, so the story goes, and I am sure it is a fact. Later on, with access to the internet, I was able to learn more About CA; his early life, his ups and downs, good times and bad, and thtough it all, as he says ''the guitar did the talking for him'' - understated and shy that he was.
A great guitarist, a marvellous inspiration to other players such as Jerry and Mark - and also to failed dilettantes on the guitar like me. kevin, ENGLAND
