Black Flag/GONE/Painted Willie. The Boathouse. Cedar Falls, IA. 6/19/1986

Posted about 4 years ago
This was a big event at the time. There was actually an interesting scene in Cedar Falls, Iowa with bands on SST, Alternative Tentacles, Enigma stopping through between gigs in Chicago and Denver to play a little hole-in-the-wall bar called Dean's Parkade Lounge. The Black Flag show was held across the river in "The Boat House" on the scenic Cedar River. GONE performed early that day at Co-Op records to promote their new LP and the concert that afternoon. I remember they had an 8-track reel recording set-up by the sound board for the show. It was LOUD. Greg Ginn and Henry Rollins in nothing but some black gym shorts. I remember Rollins sitting outside reading Rolling Stone before sound check. The dancing was intense. Some BIG guy with mohawk and spikes smashed my lip at one point. This one was one for the history books for anyone into punk rock in Iowa in 1986. I remember a few years back some punk kids talking about the show. They'd seen it listed on a Black Flag site somewhere. Ah, those were the days.
