MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

i just got home from birmingham. i drove for four hours, so i had a lot of time to think.

first, why was donna godchaux allowed to tour with the grateful dead? on every live recording i have heard, i can't stand the way she sounds. i will say that she's not half bad on some of their studio stuff, but live? well, let's just say that she would never win american idol with performances like that.

second, i think that ryan adams and jack white should collaborate. maybe they already have and i am just underinformed. but if they haven't, they should. it would be interesting. and the studio outtakes would be even better.

third, pop culture museums are awesome. i'm not talking about smithsonian scale museums here, but rather those that most people consider tourist traps. i think they are what makes america great. example. i went to nashville for thanksgiving (where i ate thanksgiving dinner off of a buffet at a fucking shoney's. but that's another rant for another time), and i discovered a little jewel called cooter's, the dukes of hazzard museum. this place was so great i went back a second time. and next door was the willie and friends museum. that one was actually really interesting. i watched a documentary there about willie, kris kristofferson, and several others who used to perform at a bar on broadway called tootsie's. i'm not really a big country music fan, but i love anything to do music history from the last century. i didn't get to make it to the wax museum that was next to the willie museum, but it's really ok, because i went there about 13 years ago, and anyway, wax figures scare the hell out of me. so the moral of this story is: go to nashville. it's a gold mine of cheesy museums. and some not so cheesy history. and if you're lucky, you won't hear a toby keith song the whole time you're there.
