I hadn't heard the original "El Scorcho," by Weezer the first time I had heard Dashboard's, but I must say, it's beautifully done. I can listen to it over and over and it never gets old. Isn't that the best kind of song?
I've heard people say that Carabba just took El Scorcho, tried to make it pretty, and failed, but in my opinion he accomplished whatever he was trying to do with it. It's a different style, yes, and some may not like it, but I think it works.
Dashboard took a great song with great lyrics and made it appeal to a wider audience. I like Weezer's also, but I think that if there's a cover that could ever outdo the original, this might be it. Bravo, Dashboard.
