Prior to the internet era (82), me and two friends donned full Indian garb and headress, took to the stage, and rapped the Sugar Hill Gang Apache instrumental. As far as I know, no pictures or video exist of this and that is prolly a good thing. When i found this LP a few years later it became a treasured part of my collection.
Nice one!

*All*: Glad you enjoyed.
*Cody*: Dude, that's hilarious. Your children should know about such flights of fancy, though; for that sole reason, I regret there is no documentation (but only a bit).
But I bet I could match you with the parachute pants, the dookie gold chain (which I hid from my parents because I was not allowed to have it -- cats were getting jacked for dookie gold chains in those days) and the black stripe/White suede Clyde edition Pumas. That was that sh*t!!!! Couldn't tell me nothin'.

*Marco and Cody:* I don't ever recall having the green ones, but I had the blue suede jammies too. Those were my first pair: influenced by Walt "Clyde" Frazier, who was rocking them downtown at the Garden. My mom would get pissed off, though, because whenever they got wet, the blue dye would turn destroy white tube socks, and there wasn't enough bleach in the world to get the socks white again.
And yes, Pumas were my first real sneaker as well. My progression was Pro-Keds (aka "skips") with the short red and blue diagonal band on the side. Then after a more experienced cat called me out for this indiscretion (he was in 5th grade, I was in 2nd), I upgraded into the Pro-Keds Royals with the three navy horizontal stripes around the perimeter.
Used to wash those bad boys every Friday, have 'em air dry to be funky fresh on Monday.
Then came the Pumas, which were my shoe of choice for several years.
I never really got down with the Chuck Taylors, though. Joints always hurt my feet.

Prior to Puma I got hassled for my "fake Converse" aka Sears the Winner Converse. After that I told my Mom I'd go barefoot, if I couldn't get Puma's

I realise it's a good thing to grow up in the land of both Adidas _and_ Puma... back in the 80's, trainers were rather cheap, too. Always had a pair or two... in the 84 era, "Allround" black & white ankle-high were the thing to have over here :P

I had the high-top Chucks for a minute. I never really rocked the shell-top Adidas, though. I do remember when Fila got BIG and everybody had the same red, white, and blue joints.
*micki*, who made Allround? It may have been under another brand name here.

Converse. I always was partial to Converse (the All-Stars, not the Chuck's) because Julius Erving wore those. I think after Pumas got played out in the neighborhood, a had a brief flirtation with Ponys, then went to the All-Stars.
(My two favorite basketball players were Clyde Frazier and Dr. J.)
Now Micki and Marco bring up an interesting point about adidas: full of lore (especially through Run-DMC), but I rocked the shell top adidas only for a hot second. I had them with, and without, fat laces (depending, of course, on occasion).
While many in the Boogie Down (my original borough) were on the shell-top Adidas early, the real undercover move was to rock the Stan Smith adidas with the green tab in the back.
*Marco*: I totally missed the Fila phase.
*Micki*: Like Marco, I'd love to see the "Allround" joints. Please post or link to a pic if you have (or can find) one.
Now what I really want to know is this: was anyone rocking Le Tigre short sleeve polos?

Kryst, I can't believe I've missed this splendour. Bloody hell, I should get the firing squad for this. Glad, I've caught up with it.
This is just wicked and flippant. Thanks for sharing, mate.
