MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Album: spike's choice. the desco 45 collection
(120)

this sharon jones cover of "eddie bo - hook and sling" apparently was released as a 7" for the desco funk label, but I have never seen it. probably the best sharon jones' tune in my humble opinion and as far as i know it is only available on the "spike's choice" cd. enjoy!

This moves the Booty. One wonders how does one dance the Hook and Sling? What are you hooking and what are you slinging?

mog is acting weird again and i got my replies deleted. I agree mog is cool but it has to be the worst for technical issues. more than being called music junkies, we should be called music martyrs..

dejoe & FP111, glad you like it guys.

mktackaberry. I agree, that doggie is lifeless & the cd cover is more than an amateur effort, but still the music in it is great.

cool, cody. that must have been some great gig, I never saw those 2 together. lee fields played here with the daptones & another time with the sugarman 3. I am ashamed to confess I missed sharon jones twice already, the next one is my chance.

I have no idea how to hook & sling but I am sure the original tune had specific dance steps to follow. there is a good review of the eddie bo’s tune here http://funky16corners.tripod.com/6_eddie_bo.htm

The "Spike's Choice" compilation is available at emusic.com - on a song-by-song basis.(I bought the entire collection myself - it's great!)

Emusic also offers an Eddie Bo collection called The Hook and Sling. I'm not familiar with it, but AllMusic.com gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I don't have a canine persona like dermahrk, so it must not have been me who had the initiative to assemble this choice compilation. I bet it's good, but can't hear anything because I'm out of town and this internet room doesn't have the right plug-in to play Mog tracks. Can't wait to get home and hear "Cut and Sling Meets the Funky Superfly."

thanks a lot for the info, pjebsen. anything with the eddie bo name on it is worth buying, go for it!

spike - hah, i thought of you while i was posting this compilation.

It ain't the original but it's nice to know someone out there's willing to cover good ol' Eddie! And she definitely rocks it in her own way.
