MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Album: sound of new york 12", 1979)

willie wood & willie wood crew's "willie rap" was released in 1979, same year as the sugarhill gang's "rappers delight" hit. old school rap funkier than a mosquito's tweeter.

hey, micki. ive been in an old school mood lately... some of those tunes sound really good. have you been to a rolling skating jam? not me, i messed on the dancefloor with my roller blades once but that doesnt count.

mickimicki says:

No, I don't remember one. I did have a succession of roller skates (not blades!) in the late 70's and early 80's... but I was too young for a real "Roller Disco"... I did a lot of ice skating back then, and there was always "hot" music playing in the skating rink. I skated well into my teens... there was also a lot of alcohol involved (hot spiced wine), and lots of falls and bruises :p

A Rap Roller Skate anthem is too much for me though... it's kinda desperate... like someone in the record company said "Hey dude, you wanna cut a record? Then jump onto the roller skate bandwagon"...

Spoonie Gee on the other hand is fantastic... I LOVE old school!!! Say... you HAPPEN to have the Futura 2000/Clash jam? I only have it on vinyl... wanted to post the tune lots of times... but the closest I ever got was uploading a photo ;)

cody, introducing to you charo. a spanish chick that made it big in the 70s in the usa... god knows she is totally untalented, but she shows other qualities. the salsoul orchestra backing her. atrocious use of the english language here.

Muchas gracias for the infectious grooves, SoulR. Keep on rolling, bro'

poe- somehow the dancefloor unites people from different backgrounds, i saw that happening here in the 90s with dance music and it felt great. the people under the same groove. rollerskating is fun, i used to be really into it 3 years ago.

b- dont forget to dress in a 80s roller-disco style for the occassion. de nada, man.

have a great weekend yourself, guys.

Ok, not sure how we got here but my real faves from back in the day were Iris Chacon

and Olga Breeskin (i'm not the only one who loves Olga. check the testimonials..)

On another topic..the old school of hip only lasted 6 or 7 years and then came Eric B.+ Rakim. To me Rakim really changed the game and pushed us toward where were at today..The music advanced pretty damn quick..It also happens to be the 20th anniversary of Paid In Full..and 'cause your the schizz Danny I've added one of the sample cuts from Paid In Full as well..Ashleys Roachclip from the Soul Searchers (wait for the break at 3:30)..yup,I have a one track mind..Peace

cody- those videos are beyond hilarious, thanks for the laughs man. they go to my youtube favorites list. i had no idea it was the anniversary of "paid in full". thanks again for the original tune. it really was eric b who changed everything... and it was a blow of fresh air, lyrically and musicaly speaking. back at when i djed some old school rap i played the 7 minutes of madness remix of paid in full, classic coldcut remix. you must know that one by large so i dont bring it here. peace out.

oceanrain- yeah, it definitely sounds a lot like rappers delight. thanks and take care, man.

Remember the Vaughan Mason & Crew disco/funk classic 'Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll'? It's the perfect roller disco anthem...tried to post part 1 for you, but MOG refuses to cooperate. Also am inexplicably thinking about that fabulously quirky Melanie Safka track titled 'Brand New Key'.

thanks, annie.

i concur, sauce. the basslines are dope.

cynthia... shame you couldnt upload the vaugham mason track, mog acts very retarded again. i need to find the melanie safka tune, i dont think i had heard that one before. take care.

Wow, somehow I missed one of the great MOG parties of all time. What an insanely good collection of tunes. And to top it all off, Iris Chacon! One of my favorite memories of New York in the early Eighties was her show on Sunday evening. Mrs. Ivylander and I dug it to distraction. I still remember the theme music....
