I dunno Soul, this might well be funk..whatever it is, it is dope ..umm,I mean herbal tea.

Now this is more like it. No efn' chickens over here, just some funktastic soundz.

cody- let's toast with herbal tea :-) let me tell you how do i make the difference between 70's soul and funk, man. i think americans call funk to everything released in the 70's including some groovy 70's r&b tracks too. the main point to call it soul for me is the beat... the drum and bass do not follow a characteristic 70's funk beat, it is more like a 70's soul beat... along with soul vocals... i learned that from the northern soul scene, that is the way they do it and it made sense to me back in the day.

of course there are more funk after and before the 70s but i am bringing the purist view to make it easy. i am very interested to know your point of view on all this. the knowledge of a native american person that has live the scene as long as you have means a lot to me and i am very much open to a new view on this matter.

SD- not a dancefloor tune, but i feel like shaking my head up & down when he raps fast. really? i think she looks weird there... not to say a bit pale... i always saw her as a sex bomb and the cover kind of dissapointed me. etta is a bit like elvis... the cheesiest she looks the better... so blonde is ok with me too, heh.

And she could use a little color on her face in that come a little closer album, you're right on that. Still that blonde hair just doesn't do it for me. Beautiful talented woman nonetheless. ; )

Gotta agree with you on that rockish thing... that refrain proves it clearly. love Etta James and this song's really great - that kind of goose bumps greatness.

dzendvokh- hah, thats absolutely right... funk indeed. labeling can be so wrong, but still helps me to classify my tunes. i always love new ways of viewing styles. also, i’m spaniard.. i mean, what the f* do i know? some of the late 50’s-early 60’s new orleans r&b is definitely funk.

SD- i got you before, but i explained myself bad above... my fault. what i meant is the tune wasn’t a dancefloor smasher... something with a tight monster beat, it is a subtle, almost delicate instrumental backing etta, still very danceable because she rocks the house once more.

bloodtea- you can bring the chickens and the whole farm everytime you feel like it ;-) glad you enjoyed the tune too.

i like some of her stuff, mike. as many of the artists of her era they have equal amount of love songs, blues, r&b, soul, funk... she has an amazing voice. the lp is worth for 3 tunes for me. there are a lot of mog posts for etta, just mog the name. this is from 1975 and it sure is funky

Funk, well it isn't really definable..by me, but for this tune the cowbell, keys, and delivery make it funky..but I have no problem with the song under any genre..

cody- right, same here. i remember we "clashed" 2 or 3 times in the past over the funk & 70s soul thing, so i thought it was a good idea to explain myself. i have no problem at all to call it funk either, actualy it makes it easier.
