horace andy - exclusively lp/cd

Posted over 4 years ago
"horace andy - exclusively" was released in 1982 by the uk label solid groove and shared the same recording session as "dance hall style", released 1 year later in the ny label wackies. some different mixes, different tracks & no dubs included for the uk release, but both albums are a must purchase. the production is so tight you can touch the smoke that surrounded these recordings.horace andy was hipped in the uk by massive attack when they released a collaboration covering spying glass in the mid-90s. andy stablished his residency in london long time ago and joined the mad professor crew. it is not difficult to catch him live these days performing with the robotiks."exclusively" has been recently re-issued by the wackies label. you better buy it while it is still available.2 extra tracks from the album in comments

  2. Fijah says Nice.....I have this one...Some of Horace Andy's best stuff was reissued by the Wackies. I didn't know the Bullwackies Label was founded in New York. It's one of my favorite Reggae Labels. Man, I got to do a little research on them....once again....something I thought I knew about but had no idea. Blood & Fire also put out some great Horace cuts but again, I no so little about the label. Most of the research I did was on alot of the old Ska/Rocksteady stuff but from about the 70's on all I know are the songs...but man, there are so many great songs from that era. Respect!!!

  3. soulrocket says hey, fijah. wackies was the only label that kept releasing dub albums until 1984, after the style got out of fashion in the late 70s. what is really wicked about wackies is the productions that keep a lee perry feel, but the sound a lot tougher. i call the label bullwackies because thats how the house band was called; maybe i got you confused there. also some releases were issued as bullwackies. wackies was one of the most collectable labels of the 70s, and they started re-issuing all their back catalogue in 2001 thru wackies germany. im talking from the back of my head again, but i believe lloyd barnes (wackies owner) had something to do with the abraham label in canada. this is a good link to check whats available at the moment http://www.basicchannel.com/label/Wackies respek knuckles ;-)

  6. Marigold says Wow, these are some thick sounding tracks. I admit these sound a little more gritty and more groove oriented then a lot of the other stuff I have heard thus far on some of the Trojan compilation stuff I have. Thanks soulrocket.

  8. soulrocket says yw, marigold. true, this is "roots reggae" and it sounds different to the faster "early reggae" releases of the early 70s. hey, missjunk. glad you enjoyed it, horace andys falsetto is way cool, a true genius and a great person too. i had the chance to talk to him 10 years ago and he was really charming and down to earth.

  12. Fijah says Hey Soul, Its funny. If you look at the way I have my music organized right now you'd laugh. I though the Bullwackies and the Wackies label were the same thing....so I threw them in together. They almost have that same, Lee Perry meets Blood & Fire feel to there music though. You know....that old school stylie with that heavy sort-of feel. Anyway, thanks for putting me back on track. I'm off to do some more homework. Laser....Soul.
