blue beat review post #1

Posted over 4 years ago
siggy jackson set up the blue beat label in 1960 in the uk and released jamaican r&b and ska records by artists like keith and enid, the jivin’ juniors (featuring a young derrick harriot), laurel aitken, derrick morgan, skatalites and prince buster among others.i selected for this first bb post the skatalites version of "perhaps" & busters all stars (prince buster backup band) - "seven wonders of the world" (comments section). enjoy!

  2. Wahiawa786 says I'm not much of a fan of Reggae or Ska, but Skatalites and Prince Buster All Stars sound interesting. I'm beginning to see what the Jawaiians and Kanakafarians find attractive about the music of Jamaica.

  6. soulrocket says I know where your coming, el wahiawa. there is a lot of generic ska music made in the sixties, but then there is a lot of great tunes too. jamaicans were/still are very prolific releasing 7s in order to please sound systems (huge mobile discos) & the general public on a weekly basis. also musicians were paid by the song, so the more you record the more chicken you bring home. I also heard some hawaiian reggae & I am not sure i liked it much. it sounds a bit weird. thanks for commenting here, man. el fistula, really? I am going to keep this early jamaican music posts for a time, worth checking. el googoomuc, thats true... i love the arabian-desert boots influence. la glammerhammer, yw and glad you enjoyed it.

  10. soulrocket says yeah, thats the idea el jonh. I have been holding myself to post jamaican music so posts will flow like roses fom now on. el cody, i love that tune too. 7 wonders, 7 veils... me love it. el jeff, there are 3 places in the world better than jamaica to buy jamaican music. london, new york & toronto. I used to buy music in the uk to re-sale it in spain & i got me quite a few originals during the years. also these days ebay or gemm provide even a better chance.

  17. soulrocket says hah, that was fun. 1-Crouch down low with feet slightly apart with bent knees and bent arms. 2-Move arms as if you were skanking (up and down like robot, but with more feeling than a robot) and raise one knee and one leg. 3-Put leg down, then move arms in skank motion while going lower. 4-Come up with the other leg and knee. 5-Repeat step 2.
