  3. soulrocket says hah, indeed dejoe. and it’s 1000 times better than any of the soft rock crap it was made back at the end of the sixties. girlcrawl - first time I heard this tune I needed to play it 5 times in a row. it sticks on the happy side of the brain and that’s what bubblegum music is about. cool you both enjoyed it, guys. I use it as a key to switch from soul music to sixties pop/rock bands, it always make the crowd go crazy specially on the "sticks part". a party bomb.

  4. Jonh Ingham says Didn't Kasenetz and Katz have a few other hits? 'Snoopy and the Red Baron'? I'm relying on memory here, so no guarantees of accuracy.

  6. soulrocket says "snoopy & the red baron" was a great goofer, john. they also recorded under "kasenetz-katz singing orchestral circus" the crazy "quick joe small" song and under "kasenetz-katz super circus" they recorded "dong-dong-diki-di-Ki-dong" & "down in tennessee". agree, googoomuc.

  14. ivylander says "Yummy Yummy Yummy" by the Ohio Express was the seminal bubblegum text. Another of their songs, "1-2-3 Red Light," was covered by Talking Heads in their early days. I got kicked out of my first band (in eighth grade) because everyone else in the group wanted to learn The Music Explosion's "A Little Bit Of Soul" (another Kasenatz-Katz supersmash) and I wanted to learn a Buffalo Springfield song. (The seeds of elitism had been planted even then.) A drumstick that bounced off my ear was the catalyst. Just a little digression there....

  15. ivylander says Oops, my mistake - "1-2-3 Red Light" was a Kasenetz-Katz production, but it was by the 1910 Fruitgum Company. To the degree that any of their songs was "by" anyone.

  16. kristiana says Good stuff! I knew they sounded familiar, I really like "Quick Joe Small", only one I know.

  17. soulrocket says ivy, i believe back at the time this stuff was on top of the lists , buffalo springfield was a less commercial choice, so its quite understandable what you did. the good thing about reviewing oldies is that after 20 or more years what still sounds good will remain like that for the years to come. no hype to interfear. I love the ohio express.. loads of great songs.. same for 1910 fruitgum company, but as you wisely said they were the same guys all the time. same here, kristiana..

  20. soulrocket says alright, cool. I will post an extra track tomorrow, dermahrk. i still keep in mind the "beach tunes" request, I am just waiting for the summer season to actually happen (only a few days left, cant wait..)

  21. fistula spume says Hell yeah. That's awesome soulrocket. You got some choice tunes for sure. Why do I keep picking up sticks? It's ridiculous. It's like I have no control over my body.
    Permalink posted 06/06/2007
  22. soulrocket says that’s funny, I do the same "picking up sticks" dance. that’s the good thing about tunes that work massively on a dancefloor, you can’t control yourself. the single I have is a french edition & I never saw an american copy for this tune, so it could be an only-europe release. I hope somebody will be able to fill this lack of information for me.

  23. Mike the Knife says Eeeeeee-vil. Never liked the more simple-minded and whiny stiff - "Yummy Yummy Yummy" and such - but liked this one pretty much and was caught up by the glammy Brit pop that seemed to bear its influence: Slade, Suzi Quatro, Gary Glitter, etc. Sidebar: It's odd how great the Archies' "Sugar Sugar" sounds mashed up with the Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting for the Man."

  24. soulrocket says I like some of the simple minded tunes myself, no problem with that. It sure has a brit feel, man. No wonder I play this tune along sixties uk mod bands. I would love to listen to that mash up, mike... any links?
