  12. soulrocket says thanks for the appreciation, guys. pata negra is high class, for some weird reason the #1 "flamenco" act around the world is the gypsie kings, which is weird. first of all because they are french & secondly because they suck.

  14. soulrocket says true, kristiana. gipsies in spain were very conservative (they still are), until this guys started listening to b.b. king & smoking hash. you can see how laid back they are on that video.

  15. kristiana says Conservative? Really? As in keeping to themselves...keeping themselves isolated from the culture of whichever country they find themselves in?

  16. soulrocket says yeah, exactly. they have their own laws & way of life. not everybody playing/singing flamenco music is a gipsy but they started the whole thing. foreign music was only for "payos" (everybody that is not a gipsy) & when pata negra started blending blues & flamenco the "purists" got their hands on their heads. we "payos" loved it & with the years to come gipsy people accepted the new wave.

  17. ivylander says A delightful one, SF. Thanks. Pata Negra figures prominently on a compilation CD that came out in the late '80s/early '90s called "The Young Flamencos." So do Ketama, La Barberia del Sur, and the late (and truly wonderful) Ray Heredia. Well worth searching out.

  18. soulrocket says I had no idea that compilation existed, bill. you have some ecclectic tastes, my friend. ray heredia was a good one & during the time he was in ketama the music sounded good. you may like to search for "bulerias" on youtube because it is a happy style with lots of great guitar action. the older the better in this case.
