  9. waydutch says Thanks for a great cut and a good memory. In May 06 finally got talked into doing a cruise with my wife for our 20th anniversary - highlight of the cruise for me was unexpected performance during an "at sea day" by Bill Pinkney and the Original Drifters, 42 years later the man still put on a great show. RIP - he passed away July 4 this past summer of a heart attack, he was scheduled to perform that evening. Crappy picture I know but best I got

  10. soulrocket says andréa- siestas rule. you bet i will :-) waydutch- i had no idea he had died. there goes one of the best. that must have been quite a fantastic surprise for your 20th anniversary. i really dig a lot of those old doo-wop groups. cadilacs, olympics, coasters, the flairs, the penguins, the spaniels... very nice stuff. that picture is great. i never had the chance to watch the drifters live, only on video. i went to see the cadillacs 2 summers ago and what a show!

  11. Mike the Knife says People sometimes forget what a kick-ass producer J.B. was: One need only think about "Think" by Lyn Collins - and the above gem.

  13. soulrocket says mike - i concur.. his formative years are less known than his funk years, still he kicked ass in both. you have a good eye for big tunes, man. chris- thats why i joined the school for advanced geeks aka mos. will your folks pick you up or should i talk to my dad to give you a lift home after school? this tune could have been in the "blues brothers" soundtrack, it is kind of their thing.

  24. ivylander says What I am loving about this song - especially considering that JB produced it - is the simplicity of it. Sounds like one guitar, a drummer, maybe a bass player, period. Then that weird chord sequence with the four-note horn line comes in, then promptly disappears. That's just nuts.

  25. soulrocket says deffinitely there is a bass there. the kind of genius production that doesn’t lack inspiration.

  26. Spike says "Do the Jerk" is really powerful. Never heard of it or Pinkney, but now am happily in the know.
    Permalink posted 11/04/2007
  27. soulrocket says spike, bill pinkney = the drifters singer. it is a very powerful song indeed.

  28. Spike says I meant that I had never heard of Bill Pinkney before your informative post and its informative comments. Mog has taught me a lot about music, and about clarifying my syntax.
    Permalink posted 11/05/2007
  29. soulrocket says got it. probably my lousy grammar, terrible syntax and lack of vocabulary did the rest.
