  2. fistula spume says I want to know how to do the jerk. Are there dance moves online? My wife is angry as she can no longer appreciate "Cool Jerk" thanks to Cool Whip commercials. The Capitols are cool.

  3. soulrocket says here you go http://www.sixtiescity.com/Culture/dance.shtm#jerk that website is cool, loads of other old dances are covered too. i had no idea they made an advert with cool jerk, i stopped watching tv 8 years ago and i only get glimpses when i visit my folks. one of those tunes covered to death, probably almost as much as louie louie. i couldnt listen to louie louie for years either, due to everybody around overplaying it for a time.

  5. Spike says What's not to like? A great voice, solid tune, a good beat, hedonistic lyrics. I like it.

  8. fistula spume says Hey that is a cool site. That list of dances is unreal. There's probably a song or 10 about every one of them. Great stuff. I wanna organize some people to do the Bug now.

  9. Spike says The cover art looks like it's by the same person, Lynn Rubin, who did this cover in 1967.

  10. Girlcrawl says These tracks are such gems that I think we mogsters can forgive any 'laziness' displayed - smashingly fun tunes! Thanks too for the fab sixtiescity dance link, and if I learn any of these old dance steps I'll return and show you my moves. :-)

  11. Spike says Actually, the notes that Bar-Kays album says: "Cover Illustration: Lynn Rubin; Album & cover design: Loring Eutemey," and the cover is signed "Eutemey." Trivia.

  12. soulrocket says bloodtea- thats right. "i feel alright" was the first thing i played today in the morning. i smashed my arm when i went berserk with my roller blades yesterday evening. nothing serious but i cant type too quick. also i took some strong sedative yesterday and i feel kind of fuzzy today. not used to pharmacology myself. tomorrow will be another day and full of surprises if im lucky. fs- thats really cool, man. i dont know nobody here that would be up to do that stuff. i know a few mods into some of the northern soul dances, but they reserve themselves for soul weekends. i learned the hully gully at home, i love that one. and i learned it on that website. spike- thats true. i think he made more artwork (i will google his name to find out). it is kind of bubblegummy, happy stuff. its great you brought the bar-keys cover here. girlcrawl- i am a bad poster, my only saving grace is that i post good songs. i dont dance enough lately, that i must take care of.

  14. Bartleby says Laziness is a form of intelligence which I highly admire, especially when you see the results. Great post.

  15. Marigold says Solid goods. Great upbeat songs and they got my booty shakin. No need to say your sorry. Thanks for the tunes.

  16. soulrocket says bartlebly- great record cover for the ep. lazy is ok, specially when its hot... then its a way of surviving. mike- we spaniards apologise a lot less than the british, the american or the japanese. we apologise only when we do something really bad... the rest occasions is common knowledge its a forgivable thing, so its not worth even talking about it. i try to keep the apologise treatment when speaking english but i cant help thinking that more than 50% of it is totally unnecessary. i am still to be civilised, heh.

  17. Jonh Ingham says 'Cool Jerk' is one of the greatest singles ever (just like Bob and Earl's 'Harlem Shuffle' and Slim Harpo's 'Baby Scratch My Back'). In my private universe, where I rule the music business, all new groups have to listen to this song to understand how dynamics work in a pop song. You have made my busy day richer. And now I'm gonna go to that web site and find out how the Cool Jerk differs from the Jerk. And for old times sake I might just have to do some Swim, Monkey and Mashed Potatoes.

  18. soulrocket says jonh, wouldnt it be nice if all those dances made a come back? they look much better than lets say "la macarena". glad you like it, man. carolina’s shaggers still keep that tradition. also belgium’s popcorn scene (bad quality video, but you get the idea) and of course the northern soul scene

  19. Jonh Ingham says Man that first video is just one big metaphor for Smooooove. The footwork is beautiful. Made me think of a couple of weekends in Shreveport and New Orleans with my cousin, who is a tango and samba fanatic. In Shreveport watching the latin flyboys from the nearby airbase move around the floor I made damn sure my bum stayed firmly attached to the barstool. In NO she gave me a fantastic discourse on why tango is so sexy to do. Coming back to couple no. 6, they make dancing look the coolest thing to be done wearing shoes.

  20. soulrocket says thats true. i have been always curious about the shaggers scene in carolina & florida. they seem to do a lot of beach parties playing old & new southern r&b. it was another clip of an old black man dancing all by himself but i couldnt find it, that was awesome to watch too, real class i never heard of the latin flyboys before, that must have been quiite an experience. im not sure about tango dances myself, i never was too fond of that style myself. too tragic for my own taste. but i love sambas.

  21. Jonh Ingham says Tango is all about sex and control. As she put it, most of the time you're moving backwards, so you're depending on him to guide you. This, apparently, is very alluring. The sex part came from how he handled her (so to speak). By flyboys I meant guys from the Airforce base. They were mostly from Miami/Cuba or Texas, but to a guy they danced with a liquid grace that was sheer joy to watch.

  22. soulrocket says i got you now. it sounds like the kind of thing that happens in london with the latino dance classes, mostly salsa. actually there was a boom of salsa classes years ago here too and the ladies made the same remarks your cousin made.
