MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Artist:
Album: sansu 478 7"
Track:
(125)

outside of soul fans or new orleans aficionados, mentioning the name betty harris is likely only to draw blank stares. for 7 seven years she recorded 8 singles for jubilee rds, 18 for sansu and 2 for sss. all those sides can be found on the uk westside rds cd compilation "betty harris: soul perfection plus". "mean man" is my favorite betty harris song (i like my tunes tight). an allen toussaint’s composition recorded by betty for the sansu label in 1968, 2 years before she saddly retired. "mean man" is a more agressive soul attempt than previous releases and a winner to spin on any (un)decent dancefloor. today betty harris drives a big rig truck for a living.

D'oh! Can't get it to play. Mog can still be very frustrating!

I like her rig though! I one time daydreamed of doing the same - tough life though. One of my Mom's girlfriends drives a rig across N. America, very cool lady!

I wonder if Betty soothes lonely souls over the c.b. radio. What a nice thought.

annie... tsk, tsk,... you should be supporting the capitalism wheel. ;-)

glad you enjoyed it, mike & max.

kris, one of these days we will be able to teletransport ourselves thru the internet to anywhere in the world. that would be great.

I'm a bookkeeper at a non-profit. I don't even make the capitalistic world go round. The only reason why I am here is that I have unlimited web access, able to set my own hours, and I have my own office in an old Queen Anne style house where I can listen to my music as loud as I want as I work. Priorities! Damn right!

can you even imagine that this was back then? they need to have songs like this NOW, PRESENTLY. only because it grabs such SOUL and keeps you thinkin. Right on for the tune, I really dug it. and, not only that -- but i can TOTALLY RELATE! =D

annie - what a cool job. i can relate bcos of working on record shops in the past. the main comments made by my friends about my job were concerned to be able to listen to loud music all day long. its cool you can play this stuff loud because thats how its intended to be played :-)

lrodrigo, we think alike, some back to basics is needed. its great you enjoy betty harris, she deserves it.

how come nobody has said anything about her cleveage yet? also, thats not her actual truck, heh.

Great post, soulrocket! And yes, her cleavage is almost as remarkable as her voice. Here are two more Sansu tracks of hers I like. "Nearer to You" was her biggest hit, in July 1967, according to liner notes.
