Pancakes were ammmmazing! I got up this morning and made them after I went on a run. Good ol' Misery (ha) has the prettiest hills that look so spectacular with the early morning fog on them. Perfect Sunday morning, don't you think?
Anyways, I decided to give Death Cab's new album one more chance before making a final decision, and I must admit, it's just not working for me. I've always been a pretty loyal fan of Ben Gibbard, (We Have The Facts being my favorite) but this album just seems like a less interesting version of Plans, which I never really liked in the first place.
I keep reading reviews of the album saying that Gibbard got a lot of his influences for this album from Kerouac. Such a horrible comparison in my opinion. Nothing on this album reminded me of Kerouac.
But I digress.
I'm in need of some good new mellow music for summer. Any suggestions, oh dear Moggers?
PS. Thanks, Petey Lapides, for uploading that song. :)

Suggestions for a mellow summer... I'd start off with Elliot Smith, Sondre Lerch and David Kitt...and maybe some Lykke Li

Totally not here to try and convince you otherwise, but I am liking Narrow Stairs a lot. I really listened to DCFC's albums from beg. to end, and I appreciate it more. I now appreciate the beauty of The Photo Album more too, and the weakness of Plans. I am a total nerd...I just realized this...reading this back. Ugh.
Now about pancakes after a run...doesn't that just make you feel bloated? Don't get me wrong...love pancakes...but after a run...I would just feel heavy.

sorry, coming to this review awfully late apparently, but i actually rather like the new dcfc. but i'll always be a dcfc fan. hell, he could release an album that consisted solely of ben beat boxing and i'd write a glowing review, but that's just me and my insane obsessiveness.
really though, i do think it's a great record. it feels more like it should've come after "transatlanticism" and before "plans". very introspective lyrics. the only kerouac reference i've ever heard is the bixby canyon bridge one which is fairly finger on the nose. i guess i just like this one a lot because it feels less produced, less slick, less "corporate" than "plans" did. this feels more heartfelt. there is, granted, a great deal of whinging, but i'm in a similar mindset as ben: we're both getting older and both looking back on a wasted life hoping to find meaning where others did and not getting it. i live in the bay area where kerouac went wandering after bixby canyon (mill valley) and i stood in a spot many years ago where kerouac once stood and i, like ben, stood there for hours with "on the road" in 1 arm and nick drake blaring in my ears just waiting for inspiration...and it never came...and that can be heartbreaking if you've spent all this time and energy putting everything on this guy and it turns out he's just some dead guy with some old ideas that you can't steal. anyways...
