    Sermon on Pancakes
First off, I would like to offer a disclaimer to the fact that my most recently played list is quite often absolutely horrid. I am a nanny, so the kids have their own playlists on my computer. hehe. Don't want anyone thinkin' that's ME. :) In my opinion, one of the most influential blues and folk artists of the 20th century, providing material for so many famous artists, including The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin, and The White Stripes, is Leadbelly. Known for his signature 12 string guitar, as well as his "grunts" between verses, I would have to say that his "Sermon On Pancakes" makes me smile the most... "When you get up into heaven, when you get up into heaven, you'll find a big stream of molasses and a big lot of flapjack sitting on each side. And it's a lot of butter on each side and a big knife to cut the butter with. "

  3. Bartleby says According to MOG-o-Matic, your most recently played songs are quite fine to me. Plenty of Bob Dylan sprinkled with Regina Spektor and other bits. I don't know the "Sermon of Pancakes". Is it possible that you upload it for us? As Jox's said, I do love that quote and some pancakes too ;)

  4. Ohm51 says A Couple of Things ... begining with the tastiest, my favorite pancake recipe. In mixing bowl add (I actually use a tall yogurt container): 1 egg 1 cup milk 1 TBsp vinegar (what???) ... (Just do it !!!) 1 TBsp sugar 1 TBsp oil 1/2 tsp salt 1 Cup flour 1 tsp baking soda, added at the last combined with the flour (the secret ingredient, remember the volcano mock ups you made as a kid for your science project :) Makes incredibly light and buttery, melt in your mouth, pancakes, almost like crepes. I bestow this (secret) recipe on ya'll, only because you have the good taste to MOG about Leadbelly, although if he was eatin' these he might have to be re-named ... (na'h Leadbelly is too cool). The nanny status implies the tykes in your charge still might be in their formative years, and as I am frequently securing gifts for my neices ... allow me to make two suggestions, that will perhaps help nudge the young ones in the right musical directions, and may also help preserve your sanity. Anything by Elizabeth Mitchell ... I think her latest release on the Folkways label 'You Are My Little Bird' ... is exceptional. This one is from an earlier release: Then, They Might Be Giants, have two stellar children's albums. 'Here Come the ABC's' and 'Here Come the 123's' ... both highly recommended. Now, if the 'kids' in your care are older (and have already developed questionable tastes) perhaps these selctions might not prove appropriate. The Crow's ... Caw.
