Gotta love Phish! I was late to the scene that was Phish, but loved every show I saw. They've done some great covers, with Terrapin probably taking the cake. Once in a lifetime was pretty cool, Misty Mountain Hop rocked. Thanks for the link, and taking me back to some grand times!

The Funky Bitch , Llama, and YEM were written in extra large and thick font on that particular tape cover!

I was at this show. It was the summer between junior and senior year at University of Vermont. Definitely the best version of You Enjoy Myself I ever heard. It was this perfect Vermont summer day.

One of the random things I remember from that day was an exchange I had with my friend Greg during the end of Santana's set. I asked him what song Santana was playing. Greg's response was a straight faced "The same one he's been playing for the last hour."

Nice, thanks for the link to the live music blog, I hadn't seen that before. Only caught Phish once, in Providence, but feel like I've known them for a lifetime.

I think this was the first Phish tape I ever got my hands on. Still holds up as on of their most enduring performances! And this is is SUCH a FUNKY BITCH! This is Phish doing a great Allmans-style Southern rock blues. Right at the beginning , you can hear Trey tell Carlos the songs in "C"....cool.

And might I say one more thing. A lot of people who are serious about music tend to dismiss Phish as being novelty, or not living up to the hype or only good if you were on drugs.... I'd like to retort (my response might take some time as well. I'll make it into a decent post). The fact is, you take from the music what ever you want to take from it. I enjoyed Phish sober as much as I did when I was high.

Phish was an experiment in musicology, 4 men playing as equals, trying to have the input match the output. And people were attracted to their honesty, their humility, and their willingness to fall flat on their faces, get up and dust themselves off. But the fact that they took a 'leap of faith' in the first places speaks volumes for what their music meant, and means, to me. Make sense? maybe?

B42 - Yes, cool blog. I just subscribed and will see how it goes. Looks very promising. And what year did you see them?

Jameson: I agree 100%.

It was hard to explain the band to those who hadn't been or were familiar with the touring-band scene pioneered by not only the Grateful Dead but the Allman Bros, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin (They didn't do set lists from what I hear and every night was different). I too have had just as incredible times sober. In fact one such show I was totally sober but when I left I felt as high as ever just from the music.

I've been meaning to get some time (like a few days) to really crystallize a my thoughts into a meaningful post. Probably hit the Mog Airwaves on the date of one the many shows that helped to change everything.

Hmmm.... We're coming up on the 10th Anniversary of the Island Tour. (4 night run on Long Island and Rhode Island if anyone is wondering.) Could be just the right time.

Holy crap, those Providence Island Tour shows were definitely a pinnacle of my phish concert career. 10 YEARS!!! dayum....

I think an Island Tour post is in order..... 4/2-3/98 Nassau, NY 4/3-4/98 Providence RI

Those Providence tix were TOUGH to get....and worth every ounce of energy.

I remember the "Island Tour" as the height of the days of the glowstick wars. Second night in Nassau...where they killed all the lights and the sticks were everywhere during Antelope. Priceless.
