I've seen a bunch of ads for this flick recently and it is one movie I'm REALLY psyched to see. It tells the story of Chess records and the rise of many of the biggest icons in music. The movie highlights the careers of Muddy Waters, Etta James, Chuck Berry and countless other artists who have shaped the sounds we listen to today.
The impact they had on music is probably bigger than any other stable of artists. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and countless other bands literally copied the template for the blues and sold millions of records and concert tickets to teens and young adults world wide. In the case of the Stones, they are still grossing millions today.
I for one am happy to see a film showing the story. I liked Ray and Walk The Line but this movie speaks a little closer to my heart.
Check out this video of Muddy performing Mannish Boy. It's great stuff.

I saw a commercial for it last night....looks like its going to be terrific!
S'okay. They purport to tell the story, but I question its verity. Let's just say that this is leagues away from a thoroughly researched, annotated history. And the music stuff struck me as little more than pleasant celebrity karaoke. Jeffrey Wright and Beyonce deliver though.
I absolutely love the previews too and can't wait to see the movie as well. I think you nailed it with Rolling Stones being influenced by the blues. Check out this extended trailer for Cadillac Records - watch around 1:05 in and you can see the shout out for the Rolling Stones. Thanks for sharing - can't wait to see the movie. Great post.
Yeah, I'm sure there are some parts that are more hollywood than fact but I'm just happy to see something that brings to light the importance and impact these artists had on music.
Without people like Chuck Berry, Etta James and Muddy Waters muisc would be very different.
