Phish Reuniting In Studio With Steve Lillywhite?

Posted about 1 year ago

Rumors are always flying around but Billboard picked up on this one and hopefully it's true.

They are reporting that Phish is going to work with Steve Lillywhite on an upcoming album which will be their first since they disbaned in 2004.

Steve produced their 1996 album Billy Breathes. He was also a co-producer on The Stones Exile on Main St. To these questions his reponse was "no comment" which certaily isnn't a "no".

Hope this happens... will be a fun reunion show!

Next to HOIST, Billy Breathes was one of the best produced and put together Phish albums. I mean...i hope its true, but I mean...

I sincerely hope it's true, but I'm a little concerned.  I've moved in so many different directions, musically speaking, since Phish's hiatus in 2002, that I'm worried that I won't be very excited about this album/tour...

hell, what the fuck am i talking about, it's PHiSH mang!

I am with ya. Not sure I will have the same reation either. Honstly, I'd almost rather see the 99 Trey band shredding in a small venue.  Key is ALMOST.

But I do think it would be pretty amazing to see them again. I may sit down more than I used to but I'd stlll enjoy.

trey in 99 was HOT. Truthfully, I still get chills when I hear 'Will It Go Round In Circles' with Russ Lawton and Tony Markellis.

al.....you sittin down at a phish show?  that is a hilarious image!

how about trey trio opening up on tour for phish?

jameson, my hopes are that with trey, mike, page and fish spending the last 4.5 years truly outside of the phish bubble for the first time since they were kids, new, fresh directions will be forged from the band as well.

Billy Breathes is my favorite Phish album, it's also the one that I think is most indisputably awesome.  I've had a lot of friends over the years that were unsure  about Phish, cuz even if they were into the music, they thought the lyrics were meaningless, I'd burn them a copy of Billy Breathes and they'd be converted overnight.

Also, I wouldn't expect to see Phish ever play Bonnaroo.  It couldn't possibly contain them.

Hey Richie -- great to see you back.

I also think this is their best. I remember distinctly getting an early copy of the CD when I lived in Burlington and playing it REALLY loud at my place. Free totally blew our minds. The sound was incredible on that tune. So much heavier than when they played it on tour.

Would love another album like that. I hope they have it in them.

they also played a very interesting version of "Free" on that winter tour 2003 when Mike was obsessed with the distorted bass.  The Cincinnati show has such unbelievable versions of Free, Hood & Boogie On with Mike playing like that.

    nice

Billy Breathes was a sweet album, Junta being my fave Phish album though.

Phish would face a welcome return in the present, very few (big) jam bands doin there thing anymore.

I like MMJ, but Phish they are not...

Call me when they put a bathtub on the stage and have audience members jump in 1 x 1 - or when they hand out boxes of mac-n-cheese to the audience to play as shakers...
