Holy new releases & I'm a moron.

First, I'm a moron. Last night I downloaded the new An Horse CD, Rearrange Beds. Then I left my iPod hooked up to the computer and watched Chuck and Heroes. This morning I was overwhelmed by how many new releases were out today that I forgot to put Rearrange Beds on my iPod. I guess I'll spend another day at working listening to An Horse's Not Really Scared EP.

Second, as I mentioned, there are a lot of new CDs out today - Snow Patrol, P!nk, Bloc Party, The Cure. I'm overwhelmed by all of them. Who knew that Oct. 28th was going to be a popular day. I was able to get the new Bloc Party cd, Intimacy, downloaded this morning. I plan on giving it a spin today.

So I guess that's enough babbling for today. 1 week until the US election and 2 weeks until I see NKOTB in concert! Holla!!

Everyone who is cool has probably already seen these videos, but I was just introduced to them this weekend.

I present...."Take on Me" and "Head Over Heels"....Literally.

Turn, Turn, Turn

Brian and I celebrated 3 years of marriage on 10/15. Sadly, my marriage has lasted longer than the marriages of 3 of my friends. But that is not what this post is about.

Brian surprised me with this:

He gets me. He knows my love of records. I love the sound; I love having to turn them over to the next side. I love that now I can raid my dad's record collection and experience music that I just couldn't grasp when I was an angsty teen of the 90s.

So far I've played In Rainbows by Radiohead and Transformer by Lou Reed. Brian and I bough a bunch of records from Vintage Vinyl. We also raided my parents record collection last Sunday. I snagged Flying Burrito Bros, early Fleetwood Mac and a bunch of other albums. Brian tended to favor my mom's records, while I went after my dad's records. My dad also brought 3 other records up that I have to listen to.

BTW, I can play CDs, tapes and my iPod with my new record player. I have to do that though. Right now it's just for records (and sometimes the radio).

I'll post my Death Cab for Cutie concert thoughts later. I saw them play on 10/13.

Random Things

I'm 4 songs into the new Jenny Lewis album, Acid Tongue. So far I like it. It's got a very different feel than Rabbit Fur Coat.

I 100% LOVE the new Kanye song, "Love Lockdown."

I've embraced my inner pop Goddess. Lately I've really been enjoying Britney Spears, New Kids on the Block and Pink. Pink's new song, "So What," is my other jam.

Speaking of NKOTB, I had no idea how good their new album, The Block, would be. Had I known, I would have gotten better tickets to their concert in St. Louis.

The Jonas Brothers listed an Elvis Costello song on their iTunes playlist. I highly doubt they even listen to Elvis Costello or wrote that playlist for iTunes.

Yup, that's all for now. Discuss (if you want to).

I'm on a mission today.

I need to get CDs by the following artists:

Fleet Foxes

Mates of State

Black Kids

Ssion

I blame the Rocket 88 show on KDHX. :)

Father and Daughter bonding

My dad and I like a lot of the same music. We've also always tried to stay away from the mainstream. We also love to listen to our community radio station, KDHX. So I went looking for songs I heard on the Rocket 88 show last Thursday, and I saw that KDHX has a new schedule. One of my favorite shows, Emotional Rescue, is coming back. Of course, I had to tell my dad. He pointed out that one of our favorite DJs, Les Aaron, has a new show.

Then he told me to check out Albert Lee on YouTube. It still kinda freaks me out that my 51 year-old dad checks out YouTube, and I have no idea why. But anyways, he thinks that Albert Lee is "Maybe one of the most under rated guitarists you will ever see." What do you think?

Country Boy

Since I don't do much music listening on my computer when I'm at home, my mog-o-matic get bored. To keep it from being too bored, I started my iTunes before work yesterday and put it on random.

What you are seeing updated is the random music that has been playing while I've been slaving away at the corporate factory.

Sign the end is near: Chris Cornell (Feat. Timbaland) - "Long Gone"

Forget the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac meltdown! This is a sure sign the end is near!

Via Stereogum:

"You know, tough thing about Jesus Christ poses: they're just not that easy to keep up for too long. Those who remain righteous do not get rich, but do get deified; those whose arms sag get vilified, get paid, and hopefully let themselves get forgotten. I think most of us gave up hoping Chris Cornell would turn back towards his soundgarden of Eden awhile ago, but now it's time to start hoping he'll show some mercy, and just stop; things have gone from bad (Audioslave) to worse (Feat. Timbaland). This new track "Long Gone" is a love song, which is OK because love is nice. It's got flange-ing "My Love"-y production and a general "Apologize" vibe, which is OK because those were hits or something. But when you add that voice to the canned, cookie-cutter radio-ready mix, the voice that was once "Outshined," and we're down on our knees today: the grace fall is complete. You can stop now. Let's please start with the forgetting. Forget redemption, I'll go with repression.

Coffin, meet nail: hear it exclusively at ryanseacrest.com." (posted by amrit)

__________

I feel vomit in the back of my throat. I haven't heard the song so maybe it's good, but fuck. Who else wants to kill the joy and memories I have of the early 90s and grunge and all the shit I loved? Anyone?

I miss gangsta rap.

My hubby, Brian, and I headed to the dirrrty south (Memphis) this weekend. I swera my rap intake goes up when I visit my friends, Ashley & Stephanie. The funny thing is, they don't even like rap. They just like the beats.

Ashley alerted me to a rap song called "Dat Baby Don't Look Like Me." I spazzed out and said it's the end of the world.

How can anyone take rap seriously will bullshit like that out???

Brian and I have had a good laugh over this ridiculous rap, but it just makes me long for the days of gansta rap. Now everyone raps about how money and hoes and fucking stupid shit.

Seriously, go out and pop a cap in someone's ass. Biggie and TuPac are rolling in their graves.

What's the point?

A local radio station had a good morning show that plays music. Shocking, I know. At the top of every hour, they have a thing called "What's The Point?" 5 songs are played and the listener has to guess the point of the 5. I'm currently working on 2 submissions for "What's the Point," and I need the help of the awesome Moggers.

My first submission idea is songs Taylor Hawkins has drummed on. I have 4 songs so far. I just need 1 more.

My second submission idea is song/albums that members of R.E.M. have played on. That comes from a trivia question I answered back in 1995. The same radio station used to have an super awesome afternoon show, and the DJ did "Trivia From Hell." I was reading Spin, and I half paid attention to the question. After the DJ helped me by enunciating members of this band, I finally got the question right. I kept trying to answer Mike Mills of R.E.M., and he just wanted me to say R.E.M.

But I digress. I have 3 songs from albums that members of R.E.M. have played on, but I need 2 more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :) I want to stump the listening audience one morning.

The Uglysuit & Iron & Wine & Cloverfield?

On Friday the 13th, Erin, Devin, (Erin's) Brian, Logan, Tonya and I went to see Iron & Wine at The Pageant. I really only know Iron & Wine from their most recent album, The Shephard's Dog, and their cover of "Such Great Heights." But when I got the tickets, I was in a concert mood, so I wanted to see anyone and everyone. So we get to The Pageant and got nice seats in general admission. Sucky for us, the show was non-smoking, so we had to go to the Halo Bar to smoke. Not a big deal as we shouldn't be smoking around Logan and Devin anyways. We found out the opening band's name is The Uglysuit. I never had high expectations for opening bands that I've never heard of.

But The Uglysuit was different. Their music is very melodic as they have a piano player, bassist, drummer and 3 guitarists. They jammed through out their set and even had nice banter with the audience. They were in awe of The Pageant and told us we were lucky St. Louis wasn't flooded. They had played it Iowa City the night before. But yeah, I really dug their music. Watching the bass player was a treat. He got really into the songs and thrashed his long curly hair around. After their set, Brian went to the merch booth to talk to the guys. He came back with their CD and stickers for all of us. :-)

We had to wait another 30 minutes and that's when Logan and Devin got fidgety. (Yes, I think I spelled that word incorrectly.) Tonya started not to feel good because of the Lyme Disease. Seriously, she's been off and on sick for the last 2 weeks. She thought about it before the concert and thought maybe it was Lyme disease because she was in the boonies over Memorial Day weekend and did have 4 ticks on her. So we joked that maybe she has Lyme disease and told her to call the doctor on Monday (which she did).

But I digress. So Iron & Wine come on, and that's when I realized I liked The Uglysuit more. Iron & Wine's performance was too mellow and just felt pretentious. They played a 3 songs that streamed into each other. It was just blah. Just as Tonya said she wanted to leave in 5 minutes, Logan decided he wasn't enjoying the show and started to fidget and talk loudly. I think he said he was tired, which really meant he was bored. Brian put his foot down and said, we are leaving. Then Logan started to cry and pout because he didn't want to go. I think Logan realized the night was over, and he was going home and going right to bed. He wasn't happy about that.

On our way out I stopped by the merch booth to get The Uglysuit's CD, but the merch guy had stepped away. I didn't want to make everyone wait longer, so I resolved to burn Erin's copy. (This morning I found out where to pre-order their CD, so I'm going to buy it and support the band.) So we went back to the cars, and Erin and Devin hitched a ride with Tonya and I. I had to wait at Tonya's for a bit to get "stuff." After that I headed down to Erin's to watch Cloverfield.

Erin has been pestering me a while to watch Cloverfield, and every time I'm usually not in the mood. Finally, I was in the mood. Holy shit, that movie was fraking awesome!! My heart raced throughout the whole movie. I was totally freaked out and remained that way the whole drive home. Wow. That's all I can say. I had to stay up for a bit after I got home to settle down. ha.ha.

I loathed "Beverly Hills." I had written Weezer off after that song. But dammit, "Pork and Beans" is frigging catchy. The video is super awesome.

Concert - Tegan & Sara with An Horse

I'm on cloud nine today. I finally got to see Tegan & Sara in concert.

Brian and I got there at 6pm. I went to get our will call tickets, and I instructed him to wait in line - just incase the Halo Bar was to capacity. Luckily, it wasn't so, I called Brian.

Before we entered the Halo Bar, I wanted to check out the merchandise. I got up the to the table in time to get the demo CD, but they didn't take credit card - CASH ONLY. I was pissed because I didn't want to pay the ATM fees to get money out.

Brian and I stood in line and waited for what seemed like forever. When we finally got inside, all the good spots in the front were taken. Brian and I didn't want to stand in a crowd of people (mostly Brian didn't want this), so we went up to the balcony. We got seats front and center. I was stoked. I tested out taking photos from there, and it worked out well.

An Horse came out first. I didn't know what to expect other than they had a weird name. The band was like The White Strips only with a guy (Damon) on drums and a girl (Kate) on guitar and vocals. They freaking rocked. They had great stage presence and chatted with the audience. I became a fan after hearing them. Due to lack of cash on me, I didn't get their CD, but I plan on ordering it today. I was able to get a few good photos of Kate and Damon preforming. Those will be uploaded later.

The music waiting for the show to start and for T&S to come on stage was really good. I don't know if that was a venue thing or a T&S thing. Right before T&S took the stage, "You Can't Hurry Love" was played. Tegan and Sara took the stage! I squeed and screamed. I tried to take photos, but I was having issues, so I only took 2.

I don't even remember what they played coming out, but I remember they played a lot of songs from The Con & So Jealous! They even threw in songs from If It Was You. The banter was great. I laughed, which I was the only one in the balcony laughing because Tegan made te comment that the people in the balcony don't get the humor like the kids on the floor. :-( If they only knew. :-)

Brian and I left before the encore. Say what you will, but we both had to work today, and it's a 45 minute drive to get home. I was happy to see Tegan and Sara, so leaving early was ok. They were spot on with every song (except when Sara messed up on one song (I think it was "Relief Next To Me" or "Knife Going In" it's all a blur). Her messing up was adorable.

Yup. That was my night. That goes in the books as one of the best concerts.

Tegan & Sara Tonight!

I get to see Tegan and Sara in concert tonight for the first time ever. I'm so freaking giddy right now. I hope to get there an hour and a half before the show. I want a copy of The Con Demos. I downloaded a copy yesterday, but that doesn't count. I want the physical copy! I have my camera all charged up to take photos. I can't wait!

Yes, I'm a dork. I don't care!

So you think Madonna can dance?

I love Madonna. I have loved her since "Live A Virgin." I finally got to listen to her song, "4 Minutes (To Save The World)," a few night ago. At first I hated it, but then I started to like it. The video, on the other hand, sucks ass. Madonna can not dance. My friend, Erin, pointed this fact out to me years ago. I forgot about it. When I remarked, "This video sucks," Erin replied with, "that's because Madonna can't dance." It's okay though. I still love ya, Madonna.

I still don't know why she didn't include this verision of "What It Feels Like For A Girl" on Music.

(The video is available!)

P.S. My husband, Brian, is being evil and playing Rush on Rock Band. He knows my love/hate of Rush.

P.P.S. I'm such a stoner. It's Iron Maiden - "Run To The Hills." One day I'll have someone video tape me signing it. I do a great hair metal/opera voice.
