Actually it's been more like 4, but that's besides the point. Just discovered that Cordelia's Dad will be reuniting in January at TT the Bears in Cambridge with an anniversary show in the Spring of 2007 at the Iron Horse (I miss that venue). For anyone who happened to live or study in Western Massachusetts ("The sleepy West of the woody East" as immoratlized by The Pixies with 'U-Mass') in the late 1980s or early 1990s and paid any attention to the local music scene, Cordelia's Dad was one of the stalwarts maintaining a steady, visible (and oftentimes noisy) presence. They blended traditional American folk stylings with noisy post-punk musings. And now they're back...if only temporarily. Sadly, they never got the recognition of some of their contemporaries like Sebadoh or Dinosaur Jr despite recording with Steve Albini. Tim Eriksen later had a brush with fame with his contributions to the film and soundtrack of Cold Mountain. Their take on murder ballads, mental illness, doomed love, dead children, kinky sex, and shape note singing feels as fresh today as when I first heard them 16 years ago. Surely, I can't be the only one jazzed about this. Details remain scant, but "Kimchee Records":http://www.kimcheerecords.com/ and "Cordelia's Dad":http://www.cordeliasdad.com/news.html have some news.
