Ahh..The sophomore album. Very tricky for any new artists especially those whose first album was a popular success.I will say upfront that I am going to stick with this band through thick and thin, and this new album has its wide and narrow ends.Right off the top the album kicks into gear, very reminiscient of the first album and keeps right on going with their single nine in the afternoon. overall the album has a much more mellow motif than the fast, paced, driving sound that pumped the first album from beginning to end. the sound reminds me so much of the hits from another popular band from the 1960's that had albums like Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hears club band and rubber soul. I'd say if you crossed the beatles and early sound of modest mouse, put all that together and add Brendon Urie's voice and you got yourself a very enigmatic album album. Lyrically the album brings just as much amusement and intrigue as the first album and to me does not dissapoint.Musically, the sound is unlike anything ever heard from PATD. they delivered on early promises of making the album barebones and non-electronic. More Musical if you will, good old fashion drums, bass, guitar vocals and other various instruments including clapping, tambourines, glochenspeil and other fun, random sounds. I personally will be listening to this album just as much and more than the first, to linger on every note and absorb the new full sound of the BAND. Although for a newcomer to the band this new sound may be somewhat misleading to all the hype people are giving the group. It takes an open minded listener to fully enjoy the album, but for a veteran of the boys from vegas, I dont think you'll be disappointed by this experimental new album.
